JOHNNY APPLESEED DAY COSTUME IDEAS!

JOHNNY APPLESEED DAY COSTUME IDEAS!
On Friday, September 25, 2015 first grade will celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day! We
would like for students to plan to dress up on this special day. Here are some costume
ideas to help you get started. Have students wear some raggedy jeans. They can
either roll up the pant legs to their calf or cut some wide fringes at the bottom (see
photo). Wear a white or plaid shirt and roll up the sleeves. For the vest, take an old shirt
and cut it up to look like a vest and either use it or use it as a pattern to cut out material
to make a vest. For the hat, get a cheap, used, lightweight pot (big enough to fit head)
preferably one with a handle(s). Duct tape rags inside the pot to cushion the head and
wrap a piece of thin elastic around handles to go under chin when your child wears it.
Another idea is to make a pot hat out of poster paper, too. Apple seed bag is made to go
over head and one shoulder. You can google “Johnny Appleseed costume ideas for kids”
to see more images.
Students can also choose to wear suspenders or wear a plaid shirt over a white t-shirt.
Don’t forget to check out Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity if looking for that used pot or
particular piece for outfit.
We are looking forward to a fun-filled day of activities and learning on Sept. 25th!
