This is the vision that drives us.
With Calliope mini. The small computer generates enthusiasm for digitalisation for both girls
and boys - irrespective of their parents’ income.
It is going to be handed out to students in third
grade. We want to be active designers by using

simple teaching examples. Teachers are supported with understandable handouts. Calliope mini
can be used interdisciplinary.
We believe in Calliope mini being a valuable element for our childrens’ digital future. Only those
who know what’s behind the apps and gadgets of
a smart world, what data really means and how
they can secure it, will use the internet without
fear and as a matter of course.
Let’s play an active part in the creation of the
digital world!

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Before getting started you have to supply your
Calliope mini with power. Plug in the supplied
battery holder carefully.
Calliope mini comes with a few pre-installed
applications, so you can use the board right away
without connecting it to your computer.
You will see a short demo sequence that help
you getting used to all the buttons and the shake
feature.

Press the buttons A and B
to start the menu. The LED
display will show a 1. Select an
exercise from 1 to 4 by pressing
button A to go up or button B to
go down.
Shake your Calliope mini to
start the selected exercise.

1 CALLIOPE mini ORACLE
Ask your Calliope mini a question and it will show
you the answer.
You only need button A for this
first exercise.

2 PAPER, SCISSORS, ROCKS
Play a game of paper, scissors, rocks with the
person sitting next to you by using the shake
sensor of your Calliope mini.
Take your board and shake it
gently.
The LED display will show one of four symbols
randomly.
Your play partner shakes his/her own Calliope
mini at the same time and also receives a symbol.

The hierarchy of the symbols is as follows:
Well beats against Scissors and Rocks; Rocks
wins agains Scissors; Scissors beats Paper;
Paper beats Rocks and Well.
The player who has three points first is the
winner!

3 DO SPARKS FLY?
Check your solidarity. You need two participants
and one Calliope mini.
Take your Calliope mini
and touch PIN 0.
Now ask your neighbour
to touch PIN 3.

On a scale from 1 to 9 Calliope mini checks how
well you go together. 1 is bad, 9 is excellent.
In case you should keep out of each others way
the LED display will show a lightning symbol . In
case you match perfectly Calliope mini will show
a heart
.

4 SNAKE
Play a real classic on your Calliope mini. You only
need the buttons A and B to control the snake.
After choosing the game the
snake consisting of two LED
dots starts the search for food.

Please pay attention to the following information:
The USB is port is only suitable for connection with a
computer. Please don’t use it to connect external USB
power packs. Apart from that only use suitable batteries to power
the mini.
Please disconnect the power source (USB/battery) if the device is
not in use. During use only touch the edges and buttons.
While using the motor control don’t exceed 9V external power
supply.
Keep small parts away from childen.
