Commissioner Responsibilities - Licking Valley Little League

Licking Valley Little League Commissioner Responsibilities
Administrative Tasks
Commissioners handle the routine but important details that make the joy of youth baseball
become a reality. The main purpose of a Commissioner at LVLL is to bridge the gap between
coaches and the Board of Directors. Commissioners assist with the player selection process,
manage equipment, and assist with obtaining game results/scores as needed.
Enforce the Rules
Baseball is a simple game because it's governed by a clear set of rules. Each Commissioner has
the responsibility for knowing the rules or having quick access to the rulebook, which applies to
matters both on and off the field. Disputes that occur on the field, should typically be handled
by the umpires, and then almost always make their way to the commissioner for follow up. In
these situations, the Commissioner should obtain as much information as possible and report
the incident to the Board of Directors as soon as possible. In order to be effective in the role,
the commissioner should be well versed in baseball, league and LVLL park rules. Board
members will be available to assist with these duties when Commissioners are not present.
Commissioners will attend umpire/coaches meetings as often as possible and/or as needed.
Meetings will take place on Sundays during the baseball season.
Resolve Conflicts
Commissioner shall have exceptional conflict resolution skills and must communicate well with
the Board of Directors, coaches, parents and players. The commissioners shall respond to
injuries, disciplinary matters or other baseball/park related concerns. The goal is to have fun
and the Commissioner can help make this happen through proper communication.
Volunteer Role
The Commissioner role is a volunteer position. The Board relies on the dedication and
commitment of volunteers. Commissioner positions shall be filled by respected community
members and must remain independent when assisting with any administrative task, rule
enforcement and conflict resolution. The Board reserves the right to appoint the
Commissioners in manner in which they see fit.
