Girls On The Run Library
Bake Sale
Saturday, December 17 from 1:00-4:00PM in the main lobby
by the Circulation Desk.
“Girls on the Run” is a physical
activity-based positive youth
development program that inspires
3rd - 8th grade girls to be joyful,
healthy, and confident. Girls strive
to empower themselves and their
communities. Proceeds from this
bake sale will go directly towards
the Mineola Memorial Library.
Come out and support their community service impact project.
Weather permitting the girls will host relay races in the park.
Toys for Tots Drive
Runs Monday, November 28 through Friday, December 16
The Mineola Library will serve as a drop off location for
the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s “Toys for Tots” campaign.
Donated toys must be new and unwrapped. The box will be
located in front of the Circulation Desk.
New Seating Area at the Library
The Mineola Library held a ribbon cutting ceremony on
Monday, October 17, to officially open our new seating area.

recipe from the Very Merry Cookie Party cookbook and
bake cookies to share at the Mineola Memorial Library’s

to participate – novices through experienced bakers are

Wings (1927), in which two young men fall in love with
the same girl. After the US enters WWI, both join the
Air Corps and become aces. They remain friends, but the
relation to the girl threatens their friendship. This will be the
second of a series to commemorate American films about
World War I—produced between 1921-1933. Starring Clara
Bow, Charles Rogers, Richard Arlen.

the voice she hears in her head is beautiful, to everyone else
it is hilariously awful. Her husband and biggest fan, St.
Clair Bayfield is determined to protect his beloved Florence
from the truth. But when Florence stages a huge concert at
Carnegie Hall, he faces his greatest challenge to make sure her

Thursday, December 15 — Gravity by Tess Gerritsen. An
experiment on micro-organisms conducted in space goes
wrong. The cells begin to infect the crew with deadly
results. Emma Watson struggles to contain the deadly
microbe while her husband and NASA try to retrieve her
from space, before it’s too late.

Thursday, January 19 — I am Malala: How One Girl
Stood Up For Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by
by Malala Yousafzai. When the Taliban took control of
the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala
Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right
to an education.
“Visions of Scenic Long Island,” features photographic
art in color of Long Island landscape and seascape scenes.

Amy Bisagni – a resident of Suffolk County,
her medium is “CELLPHONOGRAPHY” because all
her photographs are taken with her cellphone, which also
serves as her darkroom. As the saying goes, “The best
camera is the one you have with you at the moment.” She
takes a picture and tweaks it until it “pops,” as one might
tweak a recipe until it tastes just right!

by James Herriot. Delve into the magical, unforgettable
world of James Herriot, the world’s most beloved
veterinarian, and his menagerie of heartwarming, funny,

• All programs require advance sign-up (unless otherwise indicated).
• To sign up you must have a valid Mineola Library card (patrons with
cards from other libraries will be put on a waitlist and contacted if
space is available).
• Sign-up may be done in person, by phone (516-746-8488 ext. 1) or
e-mail (childrensmineola@ nassaulibrary.org). Please have your card
handy when signing up for programs.
• Registered participants must be present when the program is
scheduled to begin. After 5 minutes, your child’s spot may be given to
someone on the waiting list.
• All programs have a minimum and a maximum enrollment. Programs
may be cancelled due to insufficient registration or inclement weather.
• If you can’t attend a program, please contact the Children’s Desk.
We often have an extensive waitlist of children waiting to get into a
program.
Volunteer to help keep the library’s toddler toys clean and in
