PE:In indoor PE this term we will be focusing on gymnastics, working on our balance and flexibility skills. In outdoor PE we will be finishing off Tag Rugby and then moving onto football. We will be learning a variety of new skills and discover which, if any can be transferred between the two different games. We will be learning skills such as passing with control and accuracy. Whilst learning to change pace, length and direction. Then moving on to doing this under pressure. We will also learn to appreciate that rules need to be consistent and fair. Finally we will move onto learning a range of techniques to attack, keep possession and score as well as trying to outwit our opponent. Art:In Art we will be investigating the Egyptian Gods – who they were and what each of their roles was. We will then take some ideas from these Gods in order to design a God of our own which suits our character and nature. We will be discussing as classes how different attributes can be portrayed by using different animal heads. We will also be studying and making canopic jars using clay. We will make a number of designs, then create our favorite and then decorate it before evaluating our work for effectiveness. Numeracy:We will be continuing to develop our skills in the main strands of Numeracy: counting, partitioning and calculating, securing number facts and understanding shape, handling data and using measures. As well as developing skills and knowledge in these areas we will be practicing applying them to problem solving, both in quick mental sessions and through longer writing tasks. The children should continue to develop their knowledge of tables facts as it is vital that they know and understand these fluently to enhance their general math’s understanding. French:In French this term we will be learning about Goldilocks and the three bears in French. We will be using the well loved and known tale as a basis to help us to learn new vocabulary. We will be looking at tricky word patterns and silent letters when spelling French words. We will be looking to improve our accents through speaking Science:This term in science we will be learning all about how humans and animals bodies work. We will look at the parts and functions of the digestive system and the types and functions of teeth for both animals and humans. We will also be conducting some experiments which will give us the opportunity to develop our scientific enquiry skills. Topic:In topic we are very excited about discovering how to ‘Walk like an Egyptian!’ The Egyptians were a very colorful period of history, where they built the most amazing temples to their most important Pharaohs. We will be finding out about some of the many Pharaohs as well as the numerous Gods that they worshipped, through investigation using information books as well as the internet. We will be locating Egypt on a world map and learning where it fits in relation to the UK and other countries. We will be finding out where the Egyptians fit on a timeline of world history as well as their own timeline of events during this fascinating period of time. We will also be discovering the process of mummification, which will link to out Art work. We will discover how important the River Nile was to the Egyptians for a number of different reasons. The Rosetta stone is an important part of the Egyptian story and we will be learning about its significance. Finally we will discover about the Valley of the Kings, which cover the burial rituals of the Egyptians and how Howard Carter fits into this area of their history. DT: In DT we are going to be investigating and making bread. We will use a traditional Egyptian bread recipe and then adding our own ingredients to make our own individual styles and tastes. We will learn about how the ingredients combine to create the bread, the action of the yeast allowing the bread to rise and prove until ready to cook. We will then experience the changes in state that the bread mixture goes through as it cooks. Until we finally taste and evaluate the bread that we have created. Music:We are continuing to enjoy our weekly session of African drumming. We have already learnt a variety of techniques and have been using these to play alongside different pieces of music. We have learnt to play open and closed tones, and have come to a better understanding of how the drum responds to how we use our hands when we play. We have also learnt to co-operate with each other working in smaller groups as well as a class. Literacy:In our exploration of texts this term we will be looking at non - fiction as well as fiction texts which will include information texts. Another nonfiction focuses will be on Persuasive texts, where we will be looking closely at the work of Howard Carter, the archeologist who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamen, writing him a letter persuading him to let us accompany him on his exciting adventure. We will be continuing to learn weekly spellings and explore spelling patterns and we will be developing our writing of complex sentences further. This will include becoming to a greater understanding of the language and skills required for Year 4. We will also continue with guided reading. Information and Communication Technology We will be undertaking research and using publisher to evidence our research on Egyptian Gods which will then support the work that we are doing during Art. We will also be continuing with our programming work on the code for life website working our way through the levels, exploring the different commands, such as conditional repeat, repeat until, at destination. We will also consolidate our understanding of ‘if…. do….. as well as else if ….. ‘statements. We will also learn that light colour is a variable and that repeat plays an important role in coding.Finally we will be able to control the object enough to be able to stop at red traffic lights as well as setting up a challenge for a friend where they have to work out the shortest route to a destination, making sure that they do not go through a red light! PSHE:Through discussion, circle time and group work we will be thinking about our “Hopes and Dreams” when we think about what we would like to achieve for ourselves as we get older and how we are going to achieve them, in order to achieve our own individual potential. We will think about what makes us special and develop our strategies to manage our feelings. Remembering that we are all individual and important and we need to respect and care for each other. REThe ‘Parables’ contained in the New Testament are stories told by Jesus to explain what God & his “kingdom” is like. We will become aware of the context of the stories i.e. and we will appreciate something of the life and times of Jesus, but also know that it is the story that carries the message. We will then move onto learning that Christians believe that God created a good and beautiful world and gave human beings stewardship of the earth and its resources. The children will learn about the Christian understanding of stewardship. We will learn about the stories of the Creation in the Bible and identify how these stories might impact on Christian attitudes and values today.
