Skill-Related Fitness Components The skill-related fitness components help improve your ability to perform skills used in sports and physical activities The 6 Skill-Related Fitness Components: 1. Speed- the time it takes to move a certain distance (Measuring test: 40 yard dash) 2. Power- the ability to combine strength and speed (Measuring test: standing broad jump) 3. Reaction Time- the time between your senses recognizing a stimulus and your body moving in response (Measuring test: ruler drop) 4. Balance- the ability to maintain body equilibrium in different movements (Measuring test: standing on one foot) 5. Agility- the ability to change direction of movement quickly while staying in control of your body (Measuring test: Jumping back and forth over a line quickly) 6. Coordination- the ability to combine movements of various body parts at the same time (Measuring test: skipping while tossing a ball back and forth between hands) 3 Training Principles: 1. Overload- placing higher demands on the body than what it is normally used to To increase the level of overload you must use the F.I.T.T. Formula: Frequency- the number of days you work out each week Intensity- how much energy you use when you work out Time- how much time you spend at each work out session Type- the activity or exercise performed 2. Progression- gradually increasing the level of exercise 3. Specificity- targeting specific muscle groups or skills to improve performance
