briners grade calcium chloride

FCC DRY FOOD GRADE CALCIUM CHLORIDE
94 - 97% Pure
The Highest Purity Calcium Chloride Available
Product Data Sheet
General Description
Calcium chloride (CaCl2) from TETRA Chemicals is a white granule with 94% to 97% (anhydrous)
CaCl2 by weight. TETRA’s product is manufactured in the U.S.A., and is a high quality food
grade calcium chloride that meets Food Chemical Codex (FCC), 4th Edition, specifications for
impurity limits and good manufacturing practices (GMP). It also meets American Water Works
Association (AWWA) Standard B550 for water treatment. This is the product of choice for food
processing and packaging applications, and other applications where FDA approval of a briners
grade has not been given.
Applications
TETRA food grade calcium chloride is used primarily in the food and beverage industry to
increase the firmness of fruits and vegetables, preventing breakup during processing and
cooking. In cheese manufacturing, it is added to pasteurized skimmed milk to help coagulate the
curds, increase firmness, and replace calcium lost by heating. The bottling industry uses it to
remove sodium alkalinity from water used in soft drink and beer formulation. Water is then
remineralized to desired levels assuring uniform taste regardless of processing location.

Safety and Handling
Protective clothing, rubber gloves, and a face shield or safety goggles are recommended.
Rubber safety boots should also be worn in work areas since calcium chloride can damage
leather. Consult local regulatory authorities for proper disposal of calcium chloride wastes.
Anhydrous CaCl2 should only be handled in areas with proper ventilation. It is recommended that
local exhaust ventilation and respiratory protection be used as appropriate.
Always use cool water (less than 80ºF of 27ºC) when making calcium chloride solutions.
Calcium chloride has a high heat of solution.
