March 2014 Towne Meadow Crier Ari Herold, Editor in Chief The History of the Coyotes By Ari Herold This month, the Towne Meadow Crier investigated the history of the school coyotes. Students see these statues near the first and second grade classrooms, but sometimes they get moved to the stage or can be seen in other places in the school. To find out more, I sat down with Mr. Lamie, the art teacher. He told me that a small group of fifth graders that needed special help in school made the coyotes about seven or eight years ago. The coyotes are made of a special kind of foam called Celluclay, which was painted with acrylic paint. The eyes are made of glass and they were ordered from a company that makes them. The teeth were also ordered. We found out that the coyotes have names. The coyote that’s standing up is a boy and his name is Zeus. The girl coyote that is sitting down is named Hera. We also talked to Mr. Lamie about other special projects that he is working on. On March 2 from 2:00 to 4:00pm the We Are Family art show will be taking place at the Children’s Art Gallery in Carmel. This is the smallest children’s art gallery in the world! All of the kids at Towne Meadow made art that will be in the show. Mr. Lamie told me that his parents encouraged him to make things when he was a kid. This made him want to be an artist. He still likes to build and is making lots of sculptures in his home studio. Page 1 of 2 MEET THE STAFF Mrs. Monroe, Fifth Grade Teacher By Lydia Teeter I learned some things about a Fifth grade teacher. Her name is Mrs. Monroe. She really likes teaching. She has been a fifth grade teacher for eight years. When she was in fifth grade, her teacher Mrs. Fletchall, gave her lots of nice compliments and said that she was a really good fifth grader. It was really special to Mrs. Monroe and she wanted to be a fifth grade teacher like Mrs. Fletchall when she grew up. Her favorite thing about being a teacher is getting to know the kids because they are all different and they are all a lot of fun to be with. One of her memorable days at Towne Meadow was when Blue, the Colts mascot, came to meet the students, and he danced around with them, and everyone had a lot of fun. Mrs. Monroe grew up in Carmel and attended Carmel High School and Anderson University. She has three younger sisters. She is pregnant with her first child. Her favorite restaurants are Italian restaurants. When she is not teaching she really likes to be outside taking her dog for a walk, or just being with friends. She likes winter weather as long as it is snowing. She answered that she likes to build snowmen. Tulips are her favorite flower and her favorite color is green. I learned a lot of new stuff by interviewing Mrs. Monroe. DO YOU KNOW… Answers 1. B – Bugatti Veyron The Bugatti Veyron, made by Volkswagon, is the fastest street legal car in the world.
