VICTORIA 2016 FLASH FICTION CONTEST
CONTEST RULES
Eligibility
 Open to residents of Vancouver Island & nearby Canadian islands
Entries
 Stories may be in any fiction genre; they must be 250 words or less and in English.
 Stories must be original and unpublished and not be under consideration elsewhere.
 We consider work to have been previously published if it has appeared in print or online, including on or
in a newspaper, newsletter, magazine, anthology, chapbook, book, website, e-magazine, blog, Twitter,
Facebook, etc.
 No biographical notes are required. Submission entries will not be returned.
Format
 12 pt. Times New Roman or Arial font, double spaced, aligned left, and with at least 1 inch margins
 Names and other identifiers must not appear anywhere on the story to ensure the judging is blind.
 Repeat the story title at the top of every page (e.g., in a header).
 Include a word count at the top of the first page.
 Acceptable file formats are .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .pdf.
Prizes & Publication
 First Prize $100, Second Prize $75, Third Prize $50
 Winning entries will be published on www.canadianauthors.org/vancouver/victoria & displayed for 1 year
Payment
 Entry fees are $10 for Canadian Authors Association members, $15 for non-members.
 Payment may be made online using PayPal at www.canadianauthors.org/vancouver/victoria
 Alternatively, payment may be made by cheque; make cheques payable to “CAA Vancouver” and include
a note with the cheque that states the name of the author and the story for which the cheque is payment.

How to Submit
 Entries must be submitted online.
 Writers may submit multiple entries; each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee.
 Send submissions as email attachments to [email protected]
 Type FLASH FICTION CONTEST in the email’s subject line.
 Include in the body of email: full name, postal address, email address, phone number, and title of
entry/entries.
Deadline
 All submissions & payments must be made or postmarked on or before 11:59 PM (PDT)

Judging
 All entries will be blind judged. Judge’s decision is final.
Announcement of Winners
 The Times Colonist will announce the contest winners on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.
