ABOUTTHEFORUM
TheBlackYouthGuidanceForum(BYGF)isaday‐longleadershipprogramforCSUNstudentsinthe
AfricanaStudiesUrbanStudiesoption,credentialcandidates,andLiberalStudiesmajors.Wewill
alsoincludeAfricanAmericanyouthandotheryouthofcolor,schoolstakeholders(e.g.parents,
teachers,counselors,administrators,andstaff),andnonprofitorganizationsinLosAngelesCounty.
TheBYGFserves:
1. topromoteracialuplift,health&wellness,collegepreparation,andleadershipdevelopment
toourtargetpopulation
2. toprovideassistanceandtraininginculturallyrelevantpracticesforpreparatorystudents
atCSUNandschoolstakeholders
3. toestablishacollegecollaboratory(communitypartnerships)withnonprofitorganizations
forunderstandinganddevelopingclearpathwaysforAfricanAmericanyouthandother
youthofcolortoenterpost‐secondaryeducation
TheBYGFprovidesparticipantswithauniqueopportunitytoparticipateineducationally
purposefulactivitieswhichincludefeaturedspeakers,fourinstructionaltracks(PreK‐5graders,6‐
12graders,ParentAdvocacy,andLeadership),andtheNonprofitResource&HealthAdvocacyfair.
TheBYGFhasbeendesignedtoaccomplishthesameeducationalmissionastheDuBois‐Hamer
InstituteforAcademicAchievementatCaliforniaStateUniversity,Northridge,whichis:
To promote student success through community and campus partnerships. We cultivate
active and collaborative partnerships with faculty, staff and students across the CSUN
campus community; work with local groups and organizations in Los Angeles County; and
provide service to cultural and educational institutions in the community

DuBoisandFannieLouHamer,promotesacademicexcellenceandstrivestoincreasethe
recruitmentandretentionofstudentsfromeconomicallydisadvantagedcommunitiestotheCSUN
campus.W.E.B.DuBoiswasthefirstblackmantoreceiveadoctoratefromHarvardUniversityin
1895andFannieLouHamerwasaformerMississippisharecropperwhobecameapowerful
politicalactivistinthe1960s.Foundingdirector,Dr.BarbaraRhodesestablishedtheinstituteinthe
springof1997.Hervisionofauniversity‐communitybasedpartnershiptoprovideacademicand
emotionalsupporttoCSUNstudentscontinuestobeastrategicgoalofDHIAAandthecollegeof
social&behavioralsciences.

PARKING:
OncampusParkingPermitPurchase(Dailyfeeis$6.00).Parkingoncampusisopensevendaysaweek,24
hours‐a‐day,andisenforced.Parkingpermitsarerequiredatalltimesinallareasofcampus.Parking
permitsmustbeproperlydisplayedtoavoidparkingcitations.Tobevalid,theparkingpermitmustbeaffixed
tothevehiclefrontinsidewindshield,lowercorner,passengerside,whileparkedatCSUN.
1.AllpersonsusingCSUNparkingfacilitiesmustparkinamarkedspacewithinthedesignatedparkingarea,
andmustdisplayavalidpermitappropriateforthespacethevehicleisoccupying.
2.DailyParkingPermitsmaybepurchasedinadvancefromourPermitStore.
3.DailyParkingPermitsmayalsobepurchasedonceyouarriveoncampusfromaparkingpermitdispenser
orfromoneoftheInformationBooths.BoththeparkingpermitdispensersandInformationBoothsaccept
cashandcreditcardstopurchaseyourdailyparkingpermit.Foryourconvenience,VisaandMasterCardare
nowacceptedatalllocationswheredailyparkingpermitsaresold.Generally,atleastoneinformationbooth
isopenbetweenthehoursof7:00a.m‐9:00p.m.Sunday‐Saturday.
