James McNeill Whistler - Graphic Works
9 October 2009 – 3 January 2010
The artist James McNeil Whistler (1834-1903) is perhaps most
famous for the painting Whistler’s Mother (Arrangement in Grey
and Black: The Artist’s Mother). But for both Whistler and Munch
the graphic medium represented an artistic expression equal to
that of painting, and they were both great innovators in that field.
Starting his graphic career in 1894, Munch benefitted from the
increased esteem of the graphic medium, established by pioneers like
Whistler. Whistler’s prints are characterized by good craftsmanship
and a swift and vigorous style. A Norwegian audience may for the
first time experience a broad presentation – 53 works - of Whistler
as a printmaker.

several different styles from Naturalism to Expressionism. The
present exhibition features well known works such as The Voice
(1896), Vampire (1895), Separation (1896), The Yellow Log
(1912), The Death of Marat (1907), The Dance of Life (1925),

Trine Lise Nedreaas
11 september - 8 november
Trine Lise Nedreaas works mainly with film and video. In her works
she presents people with particular skills, such as swollowing swords,
or eating a number of small sausages within a limited period of time.
She portrays these people in a respectful way and, to a certain
extent, one can say that these documentations immortalise those
involved.
Vigeland and Hamsun
29 May - 31 December
On the occasion of the Hamsun anniversary 2009 the Vigeland
Museum shows a small exhibition which focuses upon the relationship between the sculptor Gustav Vigeland and the writer Knut
Hamsun. Gustav Vigeland and Knut Hamsun met in the beginning of
the 1890’s and formed at that time a lifelong friendship. In 1903
Vigeland made a bust of Hamsun. This bust, in both plaster and
bronze, in addition to books, drawings and photographs, is shown
in the exhibition.

Lim Dim - Young Vietnamese Artists
27 August - 4 October, 2009
Lim Dim is first and foremost an exhibition of Vietnamese art, but more
importantly it is an exhibition that presents a new generation whose
work has rarely been shown in Europe. More specifically, the exhibition
presents a group of artists who are socially interconnected, they meet
regularly, exhibit in outsider venues such as the cutting-edge Nha San
Duc Studio, share the outsider status of official non-recognition, and
closely observe and consistently challenge quiet everyday order while
they are constantly subject to quiet scrutiny.

Crispin Gurholt – “Live Photo”, photo, video
29 October - 30 December
Gurholt is renowned for his Live Photos, site-specific photography
projects that challenge the boundaries between fiction and reality.
His complex, staged scenes are strongly imbued with art historical,
philosophical and sociological references. In his performances, subtle
narratives slowly emerge that balance a fine line between fantasy
and reality.
Ulf Nilsen – “Inside Out” Paintings
17 October – 30 December
Ulf Nilsen will show new works at the museum. We will meet his
paintings organized more conseptually as an installation.
