KUHIO SCHOOL PROJECT Each year, Central Union’s Youth on the Move donate school supplies to the students of Kuhio Elementary School. Starting on July 10th the youth will begin collecting school supplies until December. The youth need your help in blessing the children of Kuhio Elementary School. Youth on the Move are asking for #2 pencils, black pens and bar erasers. The Central Union youth will deliver these supplies to Kuhio Elementary at the start of the second semester; but now is a great time to stock up on these items while many stores offer back-to-school sales. If you would rather contribute financially to this good work, then please write “Youth Project” in the note field and place it in the offering. Mahalo for your continued support of church’s youth and your service to the community! SPIRITUAL PRACTICES OF THE RESURRECTED LIFE Join Rev. Brandon Duran and Institute for Human Services Chaplain, Terry Yasuko Ogawa, for a summer faith formation video series entitled, “Spiritual Practices of the Resurrected Life.” Scripture speaks often that the power of resurrection is both a future hope and a present reality. Brandon and Terry have begun this 6 week series exploring spiritual practices that respond to the question, “How do we live into the wonder of the resurrected life?” The weekly course starts at 7:00 PM each Wednesday until July 20th and will be held at the IHS Men’s Shelter (350 Sumner St). For more information email Rev. Duran at [email protected]. The series is open to you and to all. JOIN US FOR SUMMER CHOIR The Central Union Church Summer Choir sings at the 9:00 AM worship service in June and July, under the direction of Debbie Kelsey. Singers are invited to join on any Sunday morning for an 8:00 AM choir rehearsal in the Music Building in preparation for the choral anthem that day. Come, sing and praise God with us! WEEKLY CENTERING PRAYER GROUP "Be still and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10. The purpose of this group is faith sharing, spiritual refreshment and mutual encouragement in the practice of Centering Prayer. We sit in silence, resting in God for 30 minutes, then watch a DVD segment or read from a book by Thomas Keating or other Christian Contemplative and have some sharing. All are welcome. Newcomers are invited to arrive at 5:45 PM for a quick introduction to Centering Prayer. Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, in the Women’s Building. SAVE YOUR STAMPS Many thanks for your faithfulness to the HCUCC Women’s Board of Missions stamp project for handicapped individuals in sheltered workshops. The workers need all the stamps we can send them to use to develop job skills and earn money. They trim, soak off, sort, package and sell the stamps to collectors all over the world. The workers need both U.S. and foreign stamps. Pre-stamped postcards and envelopes are also needed. The stamps need to have their perforations intact, so a generous paper margin is important. Over the years CUCers including Bea Terumoto, Georgia Len, Jack Lockwood, Nani Bezemer and many others have all contributed their stamps. Please continue to put your postage into the box in the church office or drop them off at the Von Hamm Room on Sunday mornings. E-WASTE RECYCLING Mark your calendars for this year’s e-waste event!
