Memorising Pi
(aka Piphilology)
(aka Pi-ems)
1
Pi is a very strange number.
Not only does it never end, it looks like it is totally random.
This makes memorising the digits of Pi very difficult for circle lovers
the world over.
A way around this is to turn the digits of pi into words that can be
memorised in the form of a poem.
Memorise the poem and you can work out the digits of Pi!
In this activity we will:
1. Create poems based on the digits of pi.
2. See who can work out the best approximation of pi using real
circles.

Ἀεὶ ὁ Θεὸς ὀ Μέγας γεωμετρεῖ,

The Great God applies geometry forever;
To define the length of the circle using its diameter,
He produced an infinite number,
Which, alas, mortals will never find in its entirety.
