LOOKING FOR THEIR NEW HOME William & Kate William and Kate are two young adult Love Birds. They are looking to be rehomed together in an Aviary. They are friendly birds who will need a lot of socialisation. If you could offer these a loving home please call into the animal centre. Blossom Blossom is a 1 year old female; who came into the animal centre as a stray. Blossom went out to foster to give birth to 3 healthy kittens, but she is now back at the animal centre looking for her forever home. Blossom is a shy, but very loving girl. She is good with children but she does not get on with other animals, so she is looking for an only pet house hold. If you could offer her a home, please call into see her. Rocky Rocky came into the animal centre after he was found abandoned in a property. Unfortunately we don’t know much about his history, but Rocky is a very friendly and outgoing lad who is pleased to meet everyone he comes across. Rocky is a typical playful staffie and will make a loving pet. He is looking for a home with older children and without cats as he will chase them! If you could offer Rocky a new start and lots of love in his life, then please call into see him. Can you give these animals a new home? This is a lovely event enjoyed by all who attend, we hold this ceremony every year in October and would love to see you all there next year! K9 PARTY IN THE PIECE HALL Even though the weather did its worst, it couldn’t dampen the spirits of the dogs and their owners who came along to the Piece Hall on Sunday September 15th. Kate Hardcastle our Branch Patron officially opened the event, over 100 dogs entered the classes in the dog show and many more just came along to watch the fun, even if they were a bit wet and bedraggled there were lots of smiling faces and wagging tails. Other attractions included the small animal petting area, the ferret frenzy plus lots of stalls and games. The day raised a profit of just over £2000, so many thanks to everyone who took part, volunteered and supported the event. If you would like to see more photo’s from the K9 Party please visit bluplanetphoto. co.uk/k9partypiecehall We’d like to say a big thank you to our friend and supporter - Craig from bluplanet for covering all of our events no matter what the weather! TED We rescued ted a few months ago and here he is winning 2nd place at Mirfield agricultural show in the puppy class and 1st place in the judges choice (the one they would most like to take home). All the other dogs were pedigree and we just did it for fun with the kids Lily and Lewis. Ted stole the show! Everyone loves him and he’s such a well behaved, happy little chap. A member of public heard her little cries down a drain, she had been stuck down there for a couple of hours. Millie is a very sweet natured little girl; she can be a bit nervous at first but once she gets to know you, she loves to have a cuddle on your knee. They managed to rescue her and take her to a local vet to be treated. Millie was very dehydrated, weak and had hypothermia. She was put on a drip and stayed in an It was so lucky that Millie was found and she is now at the animal centre waiting for her forever home. If you find any animal in distress or would like to report cruelty/abuse of an animal please call: The National Cruelty Line 0300 1234 999 FIREWORKS AND YOUR PETS Firework night is fast approaching and many of us are worrying about our pets. Other products include Zylkiene and Calmex liquid for cats. We sell various products at our Centre that will help to relieve your pet’s anxiety. We use a range of pheromones in our Centre and these have proved to be very successful in reducing stress levels. Remember that reoccurring cystitis is a sign of stress and we also sell bladder support supplements-Cystaid, Cystease and Easeflow. The Dog Adaptil is a synthetic copy of the natural comforting pheromone released by a mother dog to reassure her puppies. The cat Feliway is a replication of the pheromone that cats leave naturally when they are feeling comfortable in their environment. If you are interested in our products please visit our online shop on our website: www.rspca-halifaxandhuddersfield.org.uk DOG BREEDERS PROSECUTED Dog Breeders from Bury admit a string off offences Earlier this year the RSPCA visited a property that was being used as a “puppy farm”, along with a vet, police and environmental health officers, over 130 dogs including Labradors, Collies and Malamutes; adults and puppies were seized and placed in RSPCA care. The owners pleaded guilty to nine allegations of failing to meet the needs of the dogs in their care and two of causing unnecessary suffering. RSPCA Inspector Jason Bowles said “There was a huge contrast between where the puppies were being shown to the public and where the adult “breeding machines” were kept. Some of these dogs were six years old and have been on this farm their whole lives breeding, breeding, breeding. That’s all they knew.” The dogs were all eventually signed over to the RSPCA and our branch helped with this case and successfully cared for and found new homes for 36 of these dogs. The staff had to work incredibly hard to ensure that they all received lots of care and attention, especially the puppies that were born at the Centre. We were very pleased to see them again at the K9 Party looking very happy with their new forever owners. SHOP WINDOW DISPLAY COMPETITION the winner. It was very clear from the entries that a lot of thought and effort went into creating some stunning shop windows. So first of all a big thank you from me for all of your efforts, however there were 2 shops that stood out and I am giving a joint first prize. The Huddersfield Trinity street shop led by Kim Morris, and The Halifax Union street shop led by Erica Davies win joint first prize. Erica made salt dough decorations of leaves and an owl to complement the displays she created with innovative use of bamboo to display jewellery in the window well done Erica. During September I challenged the shops to produce creative and seasonal window displays to really emphasise the quality of the stock that we get donated to the charity shops. The standard of display was excellent and I have had a very difficult time deciding on Christmas Shop At Trinity Street a series of splendid displays were submitted around the same theme showing what is possible in a small space with all of the items on sale costing £1.00 a fantastic effort well done to Kim and her team with a special mention to Janis Philips who coordinated the windows. Thanks for your hard work Russell Kebble (Branch Manager) Please visit our Animal Centre shop. We have an exciting Christmas range including Christmas cards, calendars and presents for all your pets!
