Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award
Purpose: New Albany Middle School (in association with the Ohio High School Athletic
Association and Ohio Capital Conference Middle School division) will recognize one male and
one female 8th grade student athlete who exemplify the characteristics of sportsmanship.
Recognition:
 Student athlete will receive a certificate honoring this achievement along with their
name permanently engraved on a plaque displayed on the wall in the Middle School
Gym lobby

Student athlete and immediate family member(s)* will be invited to a catered dinner
provided by the Middle School division of the Ohio Capital Conference at Hilliard Bradley
HS on Monday, June 6th at 6:00 pm (additional tickets may be purchased for other
family members)

Student athlete will hear a keynote speaker at the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award
Dinner that will emphasize the importance of sportsmanship
Student athlete will have the opportunity to meet and talk with other middle school
student athletes from around Central Ohio who share the same character traits as they
do (a professional group photo will be taken and available for purchase)

Requirements:
To apply, a student athlete must be in 8th grade and have participated in one or more
sanctioned Middle School sports during the 2015-16 school year.
The student athlete must promote sportsmanship, ethics and character as outlined by the New
Albany MS Student Handbook and Athletic Code.
The student athlete must complete the application (other side), submit essay, and have the
recommendation of one New Albany MS Teacher and Coach.
All applications will be reviewed by the NAMS athletic director, an administrative
representative, coaches, and faculty members to select one female and one male Archie Griffin
Sportsmanship Award winner.
