MOVEMENT FOR EQUALITY NOW, INC. (W.O.M.E.N., INC.); AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference - Women's
Organizational
Movement for Equality Now (SCLC/W.O.M.E.N. Inc.) is a non-profit organization whose mission
is to empower women and girls by raising awareness and understanding of the needs and concerns of
women and women's issues as it relates to human rights, social action, economic self-sufficiency,
reduction of health disparities, political advocacy and leadership to build the self-esteem of women;
and
WHEREAS, since 1987, the Evelyn Gibson Lowery Civil Rights Heritage Bus Tour has taken
participants through the cradle of the Civil Rights Movement that brought about change to the nation
in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's and beyond, working for voter's rights; and
WHEREAS, additionally the tour visits historic sites, meets civil right activist, and views 13
monuments of Icons of the Movement; and
WHEREAS, SCLC/W.O.M.E.N., Inc. has partnered with the Annual Evelyn Gibson Lowery Civil
Right Heritage Tour to take a group of adults and students on the tour on March 5-6, 2016; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Post 1 At-Large Councilmember to sponsor a student to
participate in the historic tour by donating an amount not to exceed Three Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars
and Zero Cents ($325.00).
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ATLANTA
GEORGIA, to be read as follows:
SECTION 1: That the FY16 budget is amended and the Chief Financial Officer is authorized to remit
payment of Three Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($325.00) to the SCLC W.O.M.E.N.,
Inc. to sponsor a student's participation in the Annual Evelyn Gibson Lowery Civil Rights Heritage Tour.
SECTION 2: That all payments shall be charged to and made from the following:

SECTION 3: That all ordinances and parts qf ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
repealed for purposes of this ordinance only and only to the extent of the conflict.
