Conflict in “The Birds”

Conflict in “The Birds”
a) Handwritten rough draft 11/20 Explain the definition of the types of conflicts you’ve seen so far, then describe how they were
used in the story. Each will have its own paragraph. Ask for help if you need it; don’t wait until
the last minute!!!!

Man v. Man (Ex: who does Nat directly confront?)
Man v. Nature (Ex: vs. the birds)
Man v. Society (Ex: no one believes Nat)
Man v. Fate (Ex: is Nat’s family supposed to die or live?)
Man vs. Himself (Ex: does Nat ever doubt himself)
This is your rough draft and will later be typed and edited (twice) for a major paper grade. Be
sure you are in class when we visit the library, or you will need to find a way to type this on
your own.
b) Edited Handwritten Essay 11/21 Continue working on your essay. Use your yellow “conflict organizer” handout to flesh out
your essays and make sure your paragraphs are explaining the type of conflict correctly AND
using transition words.
c) Typed Essay 11/24 On Monday 11/24 we will go to the library for you to do your first typing of your handwritten
draft started on 11/20. Over the Thanksgiving break I will look over and edit these typed
drafts.
d) Formatting Explanation 12/8 We will discuss proper formatting and layout for typed ENG class essays (MLA Cheat-sheet).
Students will look over their drafts and my edit suggestions. Students will practice handwriting
the properly formatted layout on a sheet of notebook paper as practice until we go back to the
library on 12/2.
e) Re-Type Essay 12/8 Students will use their MLA cheat sheet and edited draft to re-type and print their essay during
class. This will be your final draft and it is due at the end of class.
(If we cannot reserve the library students will need to handwrite their final draft.)

To get a 100, you must have parts A-E which we have been working on for weeks.
Use your time wisely, otherwise you will have to find a way to do the assignment on your own, OUTSIDE of class.
Needless to say, plagiarism of ANY kind will not be tolerated.
Sometimes students “forget” to bring drafts to class. Each student has a folder in my room that holds their essay and
all drafts. If you forget yours, you will have to do it over or accept a zero.
