Spiritual Discovery/God’s Character/God is nurturing/Isaiah 49:15-16
1. Create INTEREST in the subject: “What are we going to talk about?”
Pull out some home movies or photo albums of your child as an infant. Enjoy watching/looking
and share some memories you have of them when they were little. Ask your child what they
could do for themselves at this stage of their lives. Then ask, “How did you get the food you
ate? How did you get clean? How did you get to bed? Talk about how their mom and dad
made sure they had what they needed.
2. INVESTIGATE God’s Word: “What does the Bible say about it?”
The Bible says that God cares for us in the same way. Read Isaiah 49:15-16. “Can a woman
forget her nursing child, or lack compassion for the child of her womb? Even if these forget, yet
I will not forget you. Look, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are
continually before Me.”
Talk about how God cares for them just like their Mom and Dad took care of them when they
were little. God makes sure we have everything we need to grow according to his plan for us.
He never forgets about us. He always is near to us. We are permanently in His hands. He sets
safe boundaries in our life.
3. Discuss personal IMPACT: “What difference will it make in my life?”
Ask your child what this means to him. Tell him what it means to you. When we need
something, we can know that it is God who will provide it for us. Are there times you worry
about not having what you need? We can be confident that he cares about us and will always
provide what we truly need according to his plan.
4. PRAY with your children related to this discussion.
Pray with your child. Thank God for caring for you deeply and for always provide for your needs.
Ask God to help you to trust that he will provide for you.
