31. What happened in the 2nd Continental Congress? (Write at least 5 sentences.)
The colonists met on May 10, 1775 (deadline date from statement of rights sent during 1st Continental
Congress). They decided to prepare for war against Britain. They created a Continental Army and asked
George Washington to be the commander-in-chief. They asked each colony to contribute money to pay
for guns, ammunition, food, and uniforms for the army. The delegates decided to print their own money
and called it continentals. They formed a Navy & Marine Corps. They also sent the Olive Branch Petition to
Parliament to petition for peace. In September 1775, Georgia (last colony) joins the Continental Congress.
