Application Deadline: July 31, 2014. Later applications will be considered on a space-available
basis. Selection of participants will be based on the following criteria: professional experience and
training; willingness to serve as a volunteer responder; and experience in disaster response. The
selection committee will also seek to select a balanced group based on: mix of conservators and other
professionals; institutional and private practice conservators; specialty areas; number of registrants
from a single organization; and geography. The majority of spaces will be reserved for those living
and working in New York City or the greater metropolitan area.
Selection notifications should be made by August 15, 2014.
Course outline, supplies needed, location and times will be sent out upon final selection.

Short Answer
1) AFR is preparing curriculum to train individuals in collections or heritage emergency
response.
a. Please describe any experience or training you have had related to emergency
preparation, response, and recovery in your institution or private business.
(including ICS, CERT, CPR, First Aid, or similar classes)
b. Would you be willing to take a free 3 hour online FEMA course on the Incident
Command System before or during the training?
2) The training will start on Saturday September 13, 2014. The second session will be
Saturday September 20th and then will generally be held on a non-consecutive Saturday or
Sunday until mid-November. We expect trainees to attend all of the sessions.
a. Please explain your weekend availability this fall.
b. Will you be able to attend these sessions?
3) We expect the training to be complete by mid-Spring of 2015. Please discuss your ability
to serve as a volunteer responder for future emergencies affecting cultural property within
New York City.
a. Would you be able to take time off and/or obtain approval from your supervisor in
the event of an emergency?
b. Would you be willing to volunteer to assist with AFR’s emergency hotline on a
rotating basis?
c. Would you complete abbreviated refresher training annually?
4) AFR strives to continue to strengthen mitigation and response capabilities of the NYC art
community through training opportunities, fostering of local planning efforts, and improved
dialogue and partnerships.
