October 7, 2016 Dear Parents, The parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the week that we return from Fall Break. During this time, we will have an opportunity to review your child’s work and report card together. The kiddos are welcome to come with you, whatever your preference may be. Keep in mind that reading skills are a building block. Your child must recognize the sound for each letter in print. Sight words can be deciphered using this skill. However, sight words are also rote memorization. It is important to practice all of the words every night. You can make a game out of it with siblings, or take turns with your child. Seeing the word written and hearing the word read out loud will help your child’s brain to remember it. Please mix up the words on the word ring each week. The kiddos can be very crafty in memorizing the order of the words and not necessarily the word itself! Please take time to stop by the Greensburg or Westport public library over break. They offer great programs throughout the year. Their service to our community helps to make it stronger. In addition to books, they also have DVDs that you can check out with your library card. Go and have a look around. It is a great place for kids! Thank you for all you are doing at home each night to help with homework! Enjoy Break!
