Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Tribal Administrator facilitates
research, development, review, writing and editing of applications for grants; conducts
research for potential funding sources; maintains databases; and works in collaboration
with staff in developing and follow through of proposals.

Works closely with staff in developing and transforming ideas into grant proposals;
interacts with tribal entities involved in grant­funding activities. Participates in meetings
and discussions in which decisions affecting grant program applications and follow
through are made.
Is responsible for implementation of a Strategic Planning process to adopt Five­Year
Strategic Plans; and monitoring the progress towards achievement of the goals and
objectives in the Plan and making progress reports to Tribal Administration, Tribal
Council, and the Tribal Citizens. Furthermore, is responsible for facilitating the updating
the Plan.
Ensures that the Tribe has reasonably up­to­date needs assessment data to help guide
the Tribal Council, Tribal Administration, and Tribal Managers to design appropriate
strategic responses to meet the needs of the membership and the community.
Maintains comprehensive knowledge of particular areas involved in identifying and
soliciting grants; and collaborates with various internal departments.
Conducts research on potential funding sources using library and electronic research;
and compiles the required specific data that is used for each grant application.
Prepares grant applications and reviews and edits them for accuracy, completeness and
clarity and adherence to grantor’s guidelines.
Serves as a resource to the Tribal Administrator and other departments on state and
federal funding programs and private foundations; and provides information, research,
analysis, written reports and recommendations as needed.
Maintains contact with external agencies and assists in resolving issues and conflicts
with agencies. May review revenues, and expenditures, program status, to ensure proper
expenditures are made for Federal grant projects.
Provides timely advice and information on funding opportunities, requirements and
procedures; and coordinates some grant project activities as necessary.
When new grant proposals are successfully funded the Planner/Grant Writer shall be
responsible for developing a written implementation plan to guide the department

manager and project director in administrating the new program/project and shall monitor
the grant compliance activities.

Experience and Education:
● BA Degree in English or related field desired.
● 3 years of grant writing experience required. (A combination of experience and education
may be acceptable).
● Work experience in a government agency desired.
Other Requirements:
● ● Proficiency in Microsoft Office ­ Power Point, Excel, Word, Outlook. ● Ability to communicate clearly with a high degree of verbal and writing skills
● Ability to deal with a high level of interpersonal skills associated with the respective staff,
tribal, federal and state agencies.
● The individual must have the ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ethnic and
socio­economic backgrounds and possess a basic knowledge of Native American
communities and always maintain cultural sensitivity.
● The individual must comply with the Driving Policy, Drug­Free Workplace, and the
Pre­Employment Selection policy.
