Pine Tree Society’s Autism
Transition Program for teens and young
adults
Everything Apple
Talk with any parent of a child with autism and the topic of life
after high school is sure to come up. The thought of moving
from the highly supported and structured environment of school
to the world of adulthood is stressful and scary for parents.
Parents aren’t the only ones who worry about the next stage of
life. Transition to adulthood is a key stressor for young people
with autism as well.
The crisp fall air brings an abundance of ripe apples and offers
an ideal opportunity to practice useful life skills, all while
having fun. During this six week session, participants will learn
about the various health effects, uses for and ways of cooking
with apples.
Pine Tree Society’s Transition Program helps teens and young
adults with autism build the skills they need for a successful
future. Through a variety of fun, social activities outside of the
school environment, participants have an opportunity to:
•
Connect with peers who share similar challenges
•
Discover new abilities in center and community-based
settings
•
Explore vocational interests through workplace visits and
community service
•
Express emotion and develop skills that promote a
healthy mind, body and spirit
September 20 - October 25, 2016
