Oils • Fats • Waxes • Special Ingredients MARKET REPORT MAY 2015 General Market Situation: There have been no substantial changes in common vegetable oils. Lower yields are being offset by improved output. Uncertainties in regard to long-term developments, however, are rising. The ongoing favourable level is becoming increasingly attractive. Tips and Recommendations: Soybean Oil: South American harvests are progressing well. China takes a backseat regarding purchases. There is every indication that prices will remain favourable. Rapeseed Oil: Old crop has been processed to a large extent. Regarding the new crop, lower yields are expected in the EU than in the previous year. The market remains still quiet. Sunflower Oil: The crisis in the Ukraine is gaining in importance. Seeding for the new fall harvest is slow. We recommend reviewing your requirements, especially with regards to Sunflower Oil high-oleic. Palm Oil is moving laterally. Demand is restrained. But uncertain is the tendency for the new crop starting August. Corn Oil: Poor weather conditions in the USA are hampering the cultivation of corn. In addition, the availability of corn germ is limited, as there is a strong demand for corn from the Animal Feed Industry. Despite increasing prices we recommend long-term contracts. Walnut Oil: The historic droughts in California are dampening harvest expectations also for the coming season, as water continues to be rationed. Limited volumes are available, albeit at unchanged high prices. Macadamianut Oil: Availabilities vary regionally. China is a large sourcer (Snacks Industry), some origins, however, are regulating the country’s procurements. By closely coordinating procurements with leading producers we have been able to consolidate our position. Shea Butter: Nut quality this season is often worse than last year’s. This limits supply, especially due to costly and loss-making processing. Argan Oil continues to enjoy great popularity. As Ramadan is early this year, precautious sourcing has been extensive and availabilities are limited. We recommend close coordination. Rose Hip Oil sees light at the end of the tunnel, as the South American harvest has begun. We are expecting concrete figures in the course of May, however, yields are expected to be lower than in 2014. Capacity Increase: We have expanded our supply capacities and our container and drum filling plant substantially. In addition, we continue to raise our quality standards in line with the IFS (International Food Standard – Higher Level). For details please review the attached information sheet.
