Dear Commi ttee Members,
As a Victoria n regi stered vote r in the Federa l Electorate of Calwell, I wish to st rongly
object t o the proposed splitting of the suburb of Craigieburn via the main road of
Craigiebum (Craigie bur n Road We st) int o t wo separat e Federal Electorates being
Calwell and McEwen .
I w ish t o po int out that Craigiebu rn is on e t ow n, o ne co mm unity a nd that it sho uld
not be divided by electoral bou nd ar ie s. This will spilt o ur co m m unity int o two.

vo ice representing o ur views .
Craigieburn is a historically s ignificant town that has had re cen t community
wo rk to bri dge older Craigieburn wit h ne wer ar eas of this growing town . Your
pro posed d ivision ta ke s a sledgeh ammer to t he wo rk of our com m unit y
vo lunteers wo rking t o unit e our tow n.
Craigieb ur n is one su burb, o ne com munity, and dividing it wo uld be ve ry
detrimental to our ne ighbourhood, our sense o f pride and o ur community
sp irit.
Craigieburn is a growing urban ised community and Including part of it in t he
pre dominan t ly ru ral e lectora te of McEwen would res ult in McEwe n havmg
two ext re me ly d iffe re nt communities, w it h differin g need s, w it hin on e single
elect orate (ur ba nise d a nd rural).
I ask t h at the commiss ion return to its original decision published on the so" of July
2010 to place the entire suburb of Craigieburn into the new Federal Vi cto rian
Electorate of Burke with ot he r geographically and d emogra phically Similar su burbs of
Ra xburgh Pa rk, Sun bury, and So uth Mo rang. Fa iling that, I ask th at th e e nti re suburb
of Craig iebu rn of be retu rned to t he elect o rate of Calwell.
