Parent Involvement You are the expert on your child, so we greatly appreciate any input you have. We feel strongly that parent involvement is essential to creating a successful school year. Therefore, we will be providing several opportunities for you to be involved in the classroom. Please read the all parent communications and newsletters. Newsletters will arrive on colored paper in the parent communication folder each Monday. This newsletter will let you know “what’s up” in the classroom as well as asking for any volunteers needed for upcoming activities. In the perfect world you are working with your child every night at home; asking about their day, practicing phonics, vocabulary and fluency, and following up with their homework. I understand circumstances change, but with our challenging curriculum, your student needs this assistance. Please keep me up to date with any changes in your child that relates to their education and social development. I am looking forward to getting to know every parent and communicating with you often. I prefer to communicate via email. If you haven’t given me your address, please send me a quick e-mail using the address on the cover. You can also sign up for text messages @Heathersf. Monday Packets Your child will bring home a packet every Monday. Please make sure you look through this packet. It contains important information. An empty packet, or one containing any correspondences, need to returned on Tuesday. Book Club I do send home book orders each nine weeks. I prefer that you order online using my code J2MTT. Points collected are used throughout the year in the classroom. Fundraiser I will send home donation tickets for the Rusty Eck Adopt a School project. The donation tickets are $10.00. The money raised stays in the classroom. We use this money throughout the year for celebrations and science projects. Homework Students are expected to take home and complete any unfinished work from the day. This should be returned the following day. Students will receive weekly reading homework on Monday. This homework needs to be completed, with your assistance, throughout the week and returned on Fridays. Math homework will be assigned randomly throughout the week. Many times this homework will be a video regarding an upcoming lesson. I will use Edmodo to assign these lessons. Remember students are expected to read 20 outside of school each day. Agenda Student agendas are a great tool to help them communicate to you what they did throughout each day. This agenda can also be used to communicate questions or needs. Please sign their agenda each evening. If a student’s agenda is not signed, they cannot attend Fun Friday. Agendas need to accompany students each day to school. Students will be writing their weekly phonics words in their agendas. Students will also have these words in their reading homework packets. Students are tested each Friday. Edmodo I use Edmodo in the classroom. Students can use this web-site to complete and turn in assignments. Students can also practice and play games that I assign. If you have any questions regarding Edmodo, please let me know. Follow CHAMPS. 2. We follow the Golden Rule of RESPECT! Respect yourself, others and Enders Elementary. Building Procedures 1. The teacher will say “Owls” and raise hand in the air. Students should raise hands, stop talking, and put their eyes towards the teacher. They are to then wait for directions. 2. Hall Procedure- Hands to your side, all eyes forward, Lips zipped and Low speed! Consequences I use a “Clip To Success” strategy in the classroom. The strategy follows the golden rules of respect. Students can move up and down the clip chart tracking their performance. Students will write where they land in their agenda each day. Students can win awards by reaching “Top of the Chart”. We will also clip our classroom performance for classroom rewards. I use a “Keys to Success” chart for to track their behavior outside of the classroom. This chart is to track their invitation to Fun Friday. Keys can be taken away as a consequence for behavior that promotes disrespect. They key chart is available at any time. 1. First offense- Warning- Student will be redirected to do the correct behavior and a key will be subtracted from their day. 2. Second offense- Student will lose a second key. 3. Third offense- Student will lose another key and a phone call home to parents. Student will complete a “Do over” think sheet. (What would they do differently next time?) Students that lose more than two keys in any given day will not be able to attend Fun Friday. Any type of intolerable act will be handled with an office referral. Heather’s Classroom Rewards 1. Individual rewards- When a student is showing respect, I hand out a ticket to that student. I draw tickets at the end of each day for treats. Fun Friday is a lunch celebration in the classroom held every other week. Everyone is always invited; however individuals can lose the privilege by losing more than two keys in any given day, or my having an office referral during the two week time frame. 2. Individual rewards- Students can clip on the clips chart to outstanding. It they go “off the chart” they add a stripe to their clip. Ten stripes equal a reward and a new clip. They get to decorate their old clip and sign the poster. 3. Team rewards- as a table they may earn the letters in popcorn. Once they have earned all letters I will make them popcorn. 4. Group Rewards- As a class student’s can “Clip” up or down on the chart. Students will earn ‘bears’ to fill their jar based on where the clip landed that day. Once the jar is full, we will vote on a party. Events to Put on Your Calendar Field Trips We will go on field trips this year. The first trip will be to Botanica in September.
