Dear Parents and Friends of SGS

Dear Parents and Friends of SGS,
Term 4 has commenced very positively with students settling
back into the routines well. This is always a quick term with a
great deal of interesting events and activities. I look forward to a
challenging learning environment and a great deal being achieved during this time.
Our Secondary students represented us through AICES at the CIS Athletic Carnival in the last week
of term and achieved fantastic results. All students finished in the Top 10 with Ky McGrath placing
third in the Triple Jump and the 14 years Boys Relay Team narrowly missing 3rd. Ky has earned a
placed at the NSW All Schools’ Athletics Carnival.
We also had wonderful success at the HRIS Primary Netball and Soccer Gala day with our Year 5/6
Netball Team winning the competition and all other teams being competitive. This is an outstanding result.
The Ag Team had a very successful day at the Merriwa Show on the last Friday of Term 3 with
many students coming home with ribbons in a wide variety of activities.
As we move into summer, it is a good time to be reminded of being sun safe, wearing hats, slapping on some sunscreen and looking after ourselves.
The HSC Examinations commence on Monday. Please pray for our Year 12 students.
I wish everyone a wonderful term.

Primary News from Mr Feeney
Welcome back to Term 4, after what I do hope has been a very relaxing and refreshing break for all students and
their families. I’d like to extend a special welcome to Georgia Wheildon who has joined us this week in Year 3 Blue. We
are looking forward to getting to know Georgia and her family as they settle into our School community over coming
weeks.
As we also extend a special welcome back to Mrs Janine Summers who returns from her leave in Term 2. I’d like to take
the opportunity to publically thank Mrs Felicity Saunders who stepped up as Acting K-2 Co-ordinator while Mrs Summers
was away and also Mrs Sally Archibald who looked after the Year 1 Gold class over this time. Both ladies did an
outstanding job in these respective roles and I was very grateful for their dedicated and significant support. Thank you
very much!
Recently we have received results for the ICAS Mathematics Competition. Congratulations to the following students
on their very pleasing achievements:

Information has gone home this week regarding the 2015 Primary Public Speaking Competition which will be held
during Term 4 and which will involve all students in Years 3-6. I would encourage parents to read this letter and the
guidelines carefully and encourage your children as they prepare and participate in this very worthwhile activity. Topic
selection should be finalised by Friday, 16 October. Speeches will be presented during class time in Weeks 5, 6 and 7.



Each class teacher will select two (2) semi-finalists.
The finals will take place during Week 8 on Wednesday, 25 November.
The best speaker from both the Junior and Senior sections will deliver their speech and be presented with a prize
on Speech Day.
I certainly wish all students well as they prepare and present their speeches.
This week I have also written to parents of Year 5 students to explain the process of selecting Primary Leaders for
2016. I would ask Year 5 parents to ensure you have seen and read this letter and to take time to share with your
children as we work through this process. It is important that students have a clear understanding of this situation and
an appropriate expectation as they consider possible leadership opportunities to which they may aspire.
Congratulations and best wishes to Thomas Burnett (Year 3 Blue), Olivia Gill (Year 4 Blue), Sam Mount (Year 6 Blue),
Holly Fraser (Kinder Gold), Campbell Smith (Year 1 Gold), Oliver Hodges (Kinder Blue), Dempsey Manwarring (Year 2
Gold), Oscar Metcalf (Year 6 Gold) and Timothy Caslick (Year 6 Blue), who are all celebrating their birthdays this
week. I trust that each of these students will enjoy the day and the opportunity to share this special occasion with their
family and friends.
Good Humour for the Week

From the Chaplain
This year’s Art Show is up and running and there will be some spectacular pieces of art on display. This year’s theme
is ‘Outside’. Art comes in all shapes, sizes and mediums, no two pieces are the same and each piece of work tells us
something of the ‘creator’.
God is one big artist! He has created breathtaking sunrises and sunsets and all the beautiful surroundings we enjoy.
All in nature that we can see, smell, touch and feel are God’s ‘pieces of art’. What is God’s best piece of art? We are!
Each of us is chosen, created and unique! He has created us in His own image.
The great thing is that God’s work doesn’t stop after we are created. It’s actually just the very beginning! If we turn
to Him, accept that He is the creator, accept His Son Jesus (who lived, died and rose again) so we can be friends with
Him, He only then starts to mould our hearts and minds to be more like Jesus. Even better than that though, for
those who respond by being friends with God’s Son, Jesus, they will win the ultimate prize... life eternal with God!

The Yellow Cottage Tales
Welcome back to Term 4.
It is a ten week term for us at The Yellow Cottage our last Preschool day for the year will be Thursday,
10 December. It was so lovely to see the children
arrive with big smiles and lots of stories about their
holidays.
We are now operating under our Summer Programme
and the hot weather has arrived. This means we play
outside first. Please make sure your child has applied
sunscreen before the start of their Preschool day. Now
that the weather is warmer we will incorporate water
play again so all children will need a spare set of clothes in their bag. Please check that you have swapped the spare
clothes from winter to summer attire. All children need to have their own appropriate sunhat for outdoor
play.
This weekend the Scone Grammar School Art Show is being set up. It will be very exciting to see all the fantastic
artwork on display. The Yellow Cottage children have produced some spectacular artworks and we hope your family
will find time to visit the Exhibition. The Cocktail Evening is Friday 16 October 2015 at 6.30pm and the Saturday
morning viewing is 10.00am to 12.30pm on 17 October 2015. Every child in the Preschool will have an artwork on
display.
Please check our lost property box next time you are at the Preschool, it is over flowing with items. It
is just near the office. Also if you have taken home any of our spare clothes could you please return
them. We are getting low on spare undies and clothes.
“Children are not things to be molded but people to be unfolded.”

SGS Parents & Friends.
The Scone Grammar School Parents & Friends (P&F) is an organisation that supports the aims and
objectives of the School. It does so through the promotion of fundraising, fellowship, friendship and fun. The
SGS P&F has made an enormous contribution to the School over the years, generating considerable funds for
School projects and building programmes.
Examples of our fundraising can be seen everyday throughout the school, there are the lockers around both the
senior and primary areas also in these areas our latest donation the new water bubblers can also be seen. Other
notable contributions that the P&F have made are the smartboards in most class rooms, the new multimedia
projector in the multi-purpose room and new chairs for SGS functions. The P&F also sponsor the uniforms for
our representative sports teams as well as annually sponsoring the Kindergarten Parent’s Handbooks. The Young
Endeavour Programme and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service are also some of the benefactors from P&F
fundraising.
All general meetings are held in the School Library on the second Tuesday of every month (except in school
holidays or public holidays.) The President, who is elected at the AGM, chairs all meetings. There is also an
election for a Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Everyone is most welcome to attend the meetings but to
vote on motions, individuals must be a member of the association.
Application forms for membership can be obtained from the School website or from the main Administration
Office.
The Scone Grammar School Fete (in May) is our major fundraiser for the year – a great community event and
chance for the whole school to come together. We are always looking for new and interesting ideas and would
love to hear from anyone wanting to help out.
The Parents & Friends Association are a warm and supportive group and all parents are encouraged to become
involved.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, 13 October in the SGS Library at 6pm.
