Ultimate Mediterranean!
September 28, 2016 - October 13, 2016
Newly Added Ports: Dubrovnik, Croatia & Kotor, Montenegro
Norwegian Cruise Lines has announced an updated itinerary for the exciting Ultimate Mediterranean cruise.
The UNESCO World Heritage sites of Dubrovnik and Kotor have been added in lieu of Istanbul and Kusadasi, Turkey.
These “Pearls of the Adriatic Sea” offer wonderful opportunities to explore stunning locales.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
George Bernard Shaw described Dubrovnik as “paradise on Earth” and we’re sure you’ll fall
in love with this stunning walled city on the Adriatic Sea. You’ll feel a sense of awe as you
set eyes on the beauty of the old town with it’s marble streets, baroque buildings and the
endless shimmer of the blue waters. The spectacular Stradun is where locals and visitors
alike gather. Undoubtedly one of Europe’s most picturesque pedestrian walkways, it is
famous for its white limestone paving dating to 1468. The Rector’s Palace, designed in 1435
is now home to the city’s Cultural Museum and is a beautiful mix of late Gothic and early
Renaissance styles. For many, a visit to Dubrovnik isn’t complete without a stroll along the
old city walls. Built in the 10th century, these formidable walls have provided a solid
defense agains invaders for centuries. Nearly 1.5 miles in length, and nearly 18 feet high,
youÕll Þnd spectacular views over the Adriatic and the honey colored roof tops of
Dubrovnik. With its many squares, narrow alleyways, cafés and bars, this popular
destination will surely captivate you.
Kotor, Montenegro
Located along one of the world’s most beautiful bays, lies the stunning town of Kotor
named by Lonely Planet as the top city in the world for 2016. Butted up against a steep
cliff and surrounded by mountains, Kotor is located on the only natural fjord of its kind
in the world and in a bay that has made the list of Most Beautiful Bays in the World. It is
believed that the roots of Kotor stretch back before Homer (10-12 BCE) when
Phoenicians ruled the Mediterranean. Having gained their independence in 2006,
Montenegro has been busy trying to recreate the heyday of years past when Marilyn
Monroe and Sophia Loren were regular visitors. Motor, an important port since Roman
times, revolves around a gorgeous old medieval town made up of pretty squares, churches
and old limestone captain’s houses. Like Dubrovnik, Kotor’s Old Town is enclosed
within well-preserved defensive walls. YouÕll Þnd a labyrinth of winding cobblestoned
streets leading through a series of splendid paved piazzas rimmed by centuries old stone
buildings.
