Gerald and Sheila argue /Mrs Birling
Gerald thinks that/says that Sheila should leave the room.
Sheila thinks that they should all share responsibility for Eva’s death.
Inspector Goole says that Sheila should stay in the room.
Mrs Birling thinks that the inspector should leave the house.
Mrs Birling says that Eric has drunk too much.
Sheila thinks that Mrs Birling is self-righteous.

Gerald and Daisy
These answers are examples. Check your ideas with your teacher.
Gerald helps Daisy because he feels sorry for her/he likes her/he wants to be a
hero.
Gerald gives Daisy an apartment to live in because he wants to help her/he has
lots of money/he wants to have an affair with her.
He apologises because he did something wrong/ he has upset Sheila/Inspector
Goole knows what he did.

 She knows that Eric often drinks a lot of alcohol
 She is the chairman of a women’s charity.
 She feels bad that she didn’t help Eva.
 She thinks the father of the unborn baby is responsible for Eva’s death.
 She thinks Mr Meggarty is a bad man.

 She didn’t want a girl like Eva to use her surname.

 She doesn’t know that Eric often drinks a lot. She doesn’t believe Sheila
and Gerald.
 She doesn’t feel bad that she didn’t help Eva. She doesn’t feel responsible
for her death.
 She doesn’t think Mr Meggarty is a bad man. She thinks he is a wellrespected man.

Eva worked for Mr Birling who sacked her.
Eva went to the charity where Mrs Birling refused to help her.
Eva met Gerald when she was in the Music Hall.
Eva lost her job in a dress shop where Sheila was buying a dress.
Eva refused money from Eric who was the father of her unborn baby.
Eva committed suicide when her life became too bad.
