lanyards for laps

THE BEACONS OF LIGHT
Relay for Life Team
Presents ... our new annual fund raiser!
“LANYARDS FOR LAPS”
We believe this fundraiser will be very effective and a lot of FUN!
We will be holding the Lanyards for Laps fundraiser during the Shippensburg Relay for Life.
What is it? A beaded lanyard/necklace that you and your teammates create to keep track of how
many laps or miles you walk during the Relay for Life.
How You Can Get One: Individual participants purchase a lanyard and a starter bead at our site
during the relay.
How It Works: Each time you complete a lap, you earn a bead to add to your lanyard. After
each lap or mile, you simply stop by our site and get your additional bead/s and add them to your
lanyard. We are supplying multi-colored beads to acknowledge all the various forms of cancer
recognized by the American Cancer Society (A color chart will be provided on site). You have
the choice of what color/s to use for your lanyard. Our track is ¼ mile so every 4th lap indicates
one mile completed. Every 4th lap you will receive a “white” bead to indicate your mile marker.
Once you have completed your lanyard you can tally your miles by counting the number of white
beads on your lanyard. Prizes will be awarded to both the Individual and the Relay Team with
the most beads/miles.
Why Participate?
1. This is a fundraiser to help in the fight against Cancer.
2. The lanyard will make a great souvenir and as well as a reminder of your participation in
the Relay for Life.
3. Next year we will be asking you to wear this year’s lanyard to challenge yourself, a
team-mate or even another relay team to top the number of laps/miles you do this year.
Cost: only $3.00 each

Lynne has provided a sample of what your lanyards
may look like. Of course, it depends on how many laps
you walk and what beads you choose!
