When we founded Texas Wine Lover® back in
2011, we were visiting so many Texas wineries
and having such a wonderful time that we felt
both consumers and producers would benefit from
the stories of our travels. So, we began a blog to
describe our experiences at each winery, but we
quickly moved into providing all the news about
the Texas wine industry, too. Since that time, we
have seen an explosion of growth and interest
in Texas wine, and it has been our privilege and
pleasure to continue to provide Texas wine lovers
everywhere with the latest information.
This short guide cannot completely cover the depth
and breadth of all things related to Texas wine, but
we hope it does help you in your exploration. Be on

Focus of this Guide
At the time of this guide, Texas has
eight officially recognized winegrowing regions: Bell Mountain, Escondido
Valley, Fredericksburg, Mesilla Valley,
Texoma, Texas Davis Mountains,
Texas Hill Country, and Texas High
Plains. These regions are known as
American Viticultural Areas (AVA),
and they are characterized by their
interrelated factors of climate, soils,
and topography.

While it is useful to understand a
little bit about where the wine originated, the average wine drinker may

be more interested in knowing where
they can go to taste Texas wine. This is where things get complicated because Texas currently has
more than 340 licensed wineries,* and that number continues to grow. Conceivably, anywhere in
the Lone Star State, you’re never that far away from a winery.
Many people envision the Hill Country along Highway 290 when they think of the Texas wine
country, which is, indeed, where some of Texas’ finest wineries are located. What the newcomers
to Texas wine may not know is that within and around most major cities, they are within driving
distance of several excellent wineries.
The purpose of this guide is to help you locate wineries within and near major cities so you may
explore them in a day’s time. It is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to Texas wineries by
any means — visit txwinelover.com for the latest and most complete information. However, this
