Haines Science Chapter 4 Study Sheet Name:_____________________________ My child studied for this test: ___________________________________ Parental Signature Insects use spiracles to get oxygen. When frogs are tadpole they use gills to breathe. The gills helps them get dissolved oxygen from the water. When frogs are adults they use lungs to breathe. Seeds that can be spread over a wide area can have less competition for resources, which is an advantage. There are four stages in complete metamorphosis. You will have an egg, pupa, larva, and an adult in complete metamorphosis. For incomplete metamorphosis you will have an egg, a nymph, and an adult. Changes in a gene are called a mutation. Mutations can be harmful or beneficial. When a robin builds a nest out of sticks and dry grass you have an example of a behavioral adaptation. In the Galapagos Islands, finches on different islands have beaks of different shapes, which helps them gather the food that grows on the island where they live. The different types of beaks are structural adaptations. Structural adaptations of adult frogs that help them survive in their environment are their long, strong back legs to help them jump far, and their coloring which helps them blend into their environment. Their webbed feet help them swim and their long tongues help them catch insects.
