Krueger students
hit READ 3
jackpot!
Students from Krueger ES took part
in the “Where the Wild Things Are”
adventure at HEB Plus on Loop 1604
and Blanco Road as part of the store’s
kickoff of their Read 3 Program.
Every student who attended the event
received a free book, and five lucky
adventurers won $1,000 for their
school by finding a book with a picture
of a gold crown inside.
Three students from Krueger ES found
the treasured books and together
received $3,000 for their school.
Last year, the HEB Read 3 Program
resulted in a donation of more than 1
million books to children in need.
Pictured at the check presentation are (from l-r) Dillon Getz, 3rd grade; Rose Anne Perez,
HEB; Tristan Schantz-Flores,1st grade; HEB Buddy; Jacob Gamez, 2nd grade; Kim
Harrell, HEB; and April Esquivel, Reading Specialist.
Hats off to the troops!
Students at Brauchle
ES celebrated
“Freedom Week” by
dressing up for the
occasion. Dress-up
activities included
wearing stars and
stripes, wearing yellow
to support the troops,
and wearing hats to
show their spirit of
freedom. Students also
learned the history
and meaning of the
flag, the importance
of our military troops,
and the legacy of the
U.S. Constitution.
Pictured are second graders from Rebecca Folds’ class (from l-r, front row) Agalee
Berrones, Faith Briones, and Alyson Munoz; (middle row) Larry Flores, Isaiah Montalvo,

construction projects totaling
$175 million this summer!
Eagle Scout project nets Warren new tables
For his Eagle Scout Project,
Warren HS Senior Josiah
Sandoval decided to construct
four new training tables to
replace the old and tattered
ones in the school’s training
room. Sandoval developed
the plans, obtained funding,
mobilized a workforce,
constructed the tables, and
delivered them to the school.
The end result was four new
tables that will last for years
to come.
Pictured on one of the tables
is Sandoval with Head Trainer
Bryan Meyenberg.
It’s Rock ‘n’ Roll time!
Are you ready to Rock ‘n’ Roll for Northside? NISD will
once again have a team in the San Antonio Rock ‘n’ Roll
Marathon, to be held Nov. 11. Last year, NISD had the
largest team in the club category.
Thanks to a NEF grant, NISD Marathon Team members get
a free shirt and a free ride to and from the Alamodome.
Team members also get $10 off registration as part of the
Get Fit Challenge. The deadline to register on our team is
Nov. 4 (unless the race sells out before then). To register, go
to http://runrocknroll.competitor.com/san-antonio/register and designate “NISD” when you select
“join an existing team.” You do not have to be an employee to join the NISD Marathon Team.
All details are discussed on the team blog site at
http://learningspace.nisd.net/nisdmarathonteam/.
Team tri-chairs are NEF Board members Matt Foxhall and Tomas Larralde and NISD Human Resources
Director Rick Gardner. For additional information, contact Team Captain Theresa Leibold at 397-8599.
