I. DSHA Uniform Policy
DSHA has a uniform policy for three reasons:
• Downplays clothes competition
• Keeps clothing costs reasonable
• Teaches our students the necessary differences between clothing that is
• appropriate for school/work and recreation/social activities
All DSHA students are required to abide by the following uniform regulations. Students
must purchase their uniform pieces at the approved vendors listed below. All items must
be in clean and in good repair and of appropriate length and fit. Uniform pieces may not be
creatively altered in any way; this includes the skirt, pants, shorts, and shirts. Students may
wear a DSHA shirt and/or sweater and/or fleece and/or sweatshirt with a DSHA plaid
skirt or tan khaki pants.
Shirts
• Burgundy, navy blue, or white collared polo shirt, short sleeved or long sleeved, with the
DSHA logo embroidered on the front.
• Long and short sleeved cotton polo shirts are available at The Uniform Place
• Short sleeved “wicking” polo shirts (in white and navy) are available at DHSA’s online
Land’s End store
• Undershirts may be worn underneath DSHA polo shirts. Only white undershirts are
allowed under white polo shirts. Any solid color undershirt may be worn underneath the
navy and burgundy polos.
Sweaters
• A crewneck or v-neck long sleeved sweater in navy blue or burgundy with the DSHA logo
o Students may choose to wear or not wear a DSHA polo under the crewneck and vneck sweaters. Students may wear a solid color undershirt underneath a DSHA
crewneck or v-neck long sleeved sweater.
• A full zip crewneck or button down v-neck long sleeved sweater in navy blue or burgundy
with DSHA logo
o Students must wear a DSHA polo under a full zip or button down sweater
• All sweater options are only available at The Uniform Place
Fleeces
• A half zip long sleeved fleece in navy blue or burgundy with DSHA logo
o Students may choose to wear a DSHA polo under the DSHA half zip fleece
o Student may choose to wear a solid color undershirt under the DSHA half zip fleece.
• Half zip fleeces are only available at DHSA’s online Land’s End store
Sweatshirt
• A crewneck long sleeved sweatshirt in navy blue with the DSHA logo
• A half zip long sleeved sweatshirt in navy blue or burgundy with DSHA logo
o Students may choose to wear a DSHA polo under the DSHA sweatshirt
o Student may choose to wear a solid color undershirt under the DSHA sweatshirt.
• The half zip sweatshirts are available at The Uniform Place
• The navy crewneck sweatshirt is available through SalesSmith
Skirts
• Freshmen and Sophomores: Uniform skirt of light gray background with narrow navy blue
and burgundy stripes.
• Juniors and Seniors: Uniform skirt of light gray background with wide darker gray and
burgundy stripes.
• Skirt hem must fall at least as long as the finger tips with arms fully extended at the side.
• Skirts must be worn buttoned and zippered at all times (broken or torn skirts must be
repaired or replaced)
• Students may wear athletic shorts underneath their uniform skirt. Shorts may not be visible.
• Students may wear full length plain colored tights or full length plain colored leggings
underneath the uniform skirt.
• Students may not wear pants of any kind (including yoga pants, athletic pants, or
sweatpants) or mid-calf length tights/leggings underneath the uniform skirt.
• All DSHA skirts are only available at The Uniform Place
Tan khaki pants
• A pair of tan khaki pants
• Khaki pants must be full-length in a dress pant or slack style (no denim, legging or stretch
pants, cargo pants, sweatpants, or capri pants)
• Tan khaki pants may be purchased from the vendor of your choice, department store, etc.
(The Uniform Place and DHSA’s online Land’s End store sell khaki pants that meet DSHA’s
uniform policy requirements)
Tan khaki shorts
• Tan khaki shorts are an optional uniform piece.
• Shorts may only be worn during August, September, October, November, April, and May
• Shorts may not be more than four inches above the knees.
• Shorts must be of a dress pant or slack style (no denim, athletic/spandex shorts, cargo
shorts, sweatpants, or capri pants)
• Tan khaki shorts may be purchased from the vendor of your choice, department store, etc.
(The Uniform Place and DHSA’s online Land’s End store sell khaki shorts that meet DSHA’s
uniform policy requirements)
Shoes

Shoes must be worn at all times.
Students may wear the shoes of their choosing. Shoes must be clean and without holes.
Sandals may be worn throughout the school year
Flip-flops, shower shoes, high heels over 3” and/or other shoes that may pose a safety
hazard are not allowed.
II. Gym Uniform Policy
During all PE classes students must wear the following DSHA approved gym-wear pieces. Gym
wear is not acceptable during any other class period other than PE. Likewise, school uniform pieces
are not acceptable gym wear.
Bottoms
• DSHA gym shorts in black or red (Mesh shorts, Mesh Athletic shorts, Piped Athletic shorts)
• DSHA sweatpants in black or red.
• DSHA gym shorts and sweatpants are only available on the Land’s End website. These are
the only acceptable shorts/sweatpants for PE classes
Tops
• Students may wear the DSHA gym t-shirts in red or grey available on the Land’s End website
--- OR--- any DSHA club, sport, or co-curricular activity spirit wear short or long-sleeved
t-shirt.
• DSHA crewneck or hooded gym sweatshirts in grey or red
• DSHa gym sweatshirts are only available on the Land’s End website. These are the only
acceptable sweatshirts for PE classes.
*Special Note: Old DSHA gym shorts, t-shirts, and sweatpants/shirts will be acceptable attire
during a student’s PE class for the next three years (2015-16, ‘16-17, and ‘17-18 school years).
III. Acceptable clothing on “Out-of-uniform” days

Excessive body piercing
Short skirts/shorts that do not reach the fingertips of an extended arm
V. Consequences of being out of uniform

Any student out of uniform will receive a demerit which will accumulate throughout the
year toward a detention (3 demerits = 1 detention).
VI. Out of uniform days

Any time a student is out of uniform she must wear an out-of-uniform wristband.
Any student out of uniform without a wristband on will receive a demerit, even if she has
“permission”. A valid wristband must always be worn when out of uniform.
The fifth, fifteenth, and twenty-fifth day of each month will continue to be out-of-uniform
days for students that contribute to the CMC sponsored collection.
Birthdays are celebrated by being out of uniform. Students need to obtain a special birthday
pass from the Main Office and WEAR IT all day.
Students may only use their birthday pass ONCE during the school year.
Students who have permission to be out of uniform for any reason must obtain an out-ofuniform wristband from the field trip teacher, Dean of Student Affairs, etc.
Students using unauthorized wristbands (e.g. re-wearing expired passes) will receive two
demerits- one for being out of uniform and one for dishonesty.

The Uniform Place provides DSHA skirts, long-sleeve and short-sleeve
cotton polos, sweaters, half zip sweatshirts, and khaki pants and shorts.

Land’s End
The DSHA Land’s End link can be found on the DSHA website (my.dsha.info).
Click on the “Students” tab in the upper right corner. The Land’s End link can
be found under “Uniforms” on the left column.
Land’s End provides DSHA quarter zip fleeces, wicking polos, khaki shorts and pants, and all DSHA
gym uniform items (sweatshirts, sweatpants, shorts, T-shirts). DSHA Land’s End uniform pieces are
only available via online ordering.
SalesSmith
SalesSmith only sells the DSHA navy crew neck sweatshirt. Families can order this item in person
and prepay four times a year: August Book Sale day, November parent/teacher conferences,
Registration Night for Incoming Freshmen, and new/used uniform sale in spring. The vendor
