Progress monitoring ongoing.
Mr. Corsini's classes are examining the crucial role of Sacagawea in the Lewis and Clark expedition.
Ms. K. Amaral's classes are writing letters to her brother who is stationed in Jordan.
Ms. Geary's classes are dissecting biographies of the Founding Fathers and analyzing their importance.
Thanks to all Math teachers who worked diligently during CPT with our results from the Agile Mind Interim
Assessment; Gilbert Stuart was one of the first to debrief these results. Everyone completed an item analysis and
created a corresponding reteaching plan for priority standards to help students progress towards
greater competency in Mathematics. Working consistently with Dreambox is one way to provide students an
opportunity to meet the standards; targeted mini-lessons with small groups of students is another. Thanks to
Anthony Pacitto, our Mathematics Instructional Specialist, for providing support and assistance in our work.
Anthony is also available to work with teachers to support them in their work. This would involve (at least) a
three-visit cycle. First visit: meet and discuss the teacher's chosen focus (questioning, formative assessment,
classroom management, etc.); second visit: classroom visit to observe and collect evidence on the chosen
topic; third visit: debrief, teacher's reflections on strengths and challenges of the lesson's focus and
development of next steps for the teacher and Anthony.
The Mathematics Department is having a Professional Development session focused on Questioning Strategies
on Monday, November 14th, 3-5 p.m.; all Mathematics Teachers and Special Education teachers have been
invited.
Grade 7 students are using Marzano's High Yield Strategies to construct an essay Comparing and Contrasting
unicellular and multicellular organisms. They are also using microscopes to observe and diagram human cheek
cells and bacteria.
Grade 8 has completed their first curricular unit on CHEMICAL INTERACTIONS. They took their first summative
assessment this week, and the grade 8 teachers are expecting great results!
November 21, 2016 is the deadline to submit to Ms. Loebsack CTE & P-Tech applications.
CTE and P-Tech applications require an essay and a parent signature.
The following high school applications are available in the Guidance Office: CTE, P-Tech, ACE, The MET, RI
Nursing Institute
Our eighth grade students were extremely well behaved at the Transition Fair field trip last week. They
were engaged and asked many questions. Even the teachers from Greene were trying to convince our kids to
come to their school! :)
Some important dates to keep in mind for our eighth grade students.
 PTCA application deadline is November 21st
 High School Fair at PCTA on December 10th
 School choice form handed out on December 12th
 School choice form is due!!! on February 13th
Going forward Special Education Teachers should be using Way2togori AND the student/teacher
interview. These assessments should be completed and if teachers need help completing them, Mrs. Santos will
assist by calling students down during her teacher leader period.
We began to talk about Fitness Testing and setting personal Fitness Goals for ourselves. Classes will be taking
the "My Personal Best Day Challenge" beginning this week and will have two more opportunities to improve
their fitness throughout the semester. The components of the test are sit-ups, push-ups and 12 minute run /walk
test. We are using the Fitness Room every- other day now to work on different types of activity to enhance
fitness.

Students now are concentrating on Advertising Literacy and critically evaluation of Ad Techniques, Slogans &
Logos used to promote products. http://www.admongo.gov
Students are working in pairs creating Ads for self-created products to include Ad Techniques learned about.
Ads will be presented to class members in a "Shark Tank" format.
The 6th grade Library class has been reading the book "Wonder" by R. J. Palacio.
The main themes of story revolve around bullying, kindness and acceptance.
Students have learned character traits and symbolism through our reading.
We have watched the video " I am Auggie Pullman" by the Children's Craniofacial
Association http://www.ccakids.org to better understand the craniofacial birth defect of the main character.

Over the past three years Gilbert Stuart has participated in THE HOUR of Code, a world wide initiative in
teaching students computer coding. This year's Hour of Code takes place the week of December 5th-9th.
We encourage GSMS teachers, especially those teaching Math, Science & Technology to sign their classrooms
up for participation. Please see the attached info/registration form to enroll your class to participate.
Many of Mrs. Kelly’s speech and language groups have been busy working on story grammar and character
traits. While working on this specific common core literacy standard, we also weave in vocabulary and
sentence building practice. Students are enjoying assigning specific traits to characters presented to them in
the form of short story paragraphs.
Students in art having been studying forms and how the light effects our perception of them. The culminating
project was a chalk pastel drawing of a pumpkin still life in which they had to demonstrate their understanding
of this concept.
The music department continues to be very busy. Chorus and Guitar Ensemble have started after
school as has Teacher Chorus. If anyone knows of a student who wants to join Chorus or Guitar Ensemble,
please send that student to me for information and a permission slip. If there is any teacher interested in
Teacher Chorus, we met and decided this was going to be a non-stress, fun activity singing in unison and simply
for the joy of singing. Teacher Chorus is also continuing to accept new members.
"This above all: to thine own self be true,
and it must follow, as the night the day,
thou canst not then be false to any man"
~Shakespeare's Hamlet
After reflecting on last week's performance of Sleepy Hollow, the 7th graders admitted readiness for their next
play, proving they have been bitten by the "acting bug," no matter how shaky they were through the process.
All drama students' homespun plays will be due this week, in time for the quarter's end.
The 8th grade field trip to Brown University will be next Tuesday.
Students are being supported in our Technologies Classrooms in a variety of ways from their use of Everfi
to being introduced to MS Word and PowerPoint and much more. Also, if you need support with Get Schooled,
please reach out to Mr. Jones and Ms. Nicynski.

There are 3 new copiers in the teachers’ lunch room. If there is a jam or problem that you
don’t know how to fix, just call the office and we will be glad to help. Also, please do not send students to
make copies as they may get hurt as the machines have many hot as well as sharp parts; also it will void our
warranty.
