SCIENCE HOLIDAY HOMEWORK A. Activities Section Activity1. Did you know that spores are like seeds which are produced by non flowering plants like Mushrooms. Spores fall to the ground or are carried by the wind to other places. These spores produce new mushrooms. Now lets make spore prints. Material required: 1 Open mushrooms 2 White sheet of paper 3 Two plastic containers 4 Hair spray 5 Magnifying glass ( optional ) Steps 1 Gently pull out the stems of the mushrooms so that you are left with the caps. Look under the caps with the magnifying glass under the caps at the “gills” or the frilly soft bits. 2 Place the caps with the gills facing down on the paper and cover with plastic containers. 3 The next morning check under the mushrooms to see the spore prints. If there aren’t any leave it a little longer. 4 When you have your prints leave them for a day to dry. Afterwards stand at least 12 inches away and spray the paper with hair spray to preserve them or the spores will fly away even with a gentle breeze B.
