Grant writer
The grant writer is responsible for prospect research of foundation, corporate and institutional
funding opportunities for the organization, as well as grant writing and timely, flawless grant
submission.
Responsibilities:
1. Fundraising Development
a. Researches, locates, studies, prioritizes and contacts both program and operations
funding sources in order to apply for grants or to submit requests for contributions.
b. Writes and submits grant proposals to governmental agencies, foundations, corporate,
and business sources.
c. Prepares all documentation required for grant submission.
d. Develops and maintains relationships with funding entities to promote support for
Operation Warm programs and operations.
2. Development and Reporting
a. Uses Raiser’s Edge fundraising software for prospect management
b. Uses Foundation Search for prospecting
c. Prepares and submits all grant follow-up reports thoroughly and in a timely manner.
d. Meets with grantees (by phone or in person) relative to audits and/or site visits and is
prepared for such meetings w/ required outcomes, financial data, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
a. Manages the grants submission procedure, which includes the maintenance of grants
calendar (that logs submission deadlines), funding priorities relevant to Operation Warm
and reporting dates.
Qualifications:
o College degree or equal years’ of grant-related experience required.
o Minimum of three years’ experience in a research, grant writing, or program reporting
position in a nonprofit or institution of higher learning.
o Proven ability to flawlessly communicate through excellent written communication skills,
including strong skills in proofreading and editing.
o Proven success in fundraising and grant writing, with a track record of securing high dollar
grant awards.
o Excellent time management capabilities and ability to simultaneously execute multiple
projects/events.

Working knowledge of social media and how to leverage tools for fund development.
Strong project management skills.
Knowledge of non-profit functions and capacity building strategies.
Knowledge of budgets, financial interpretation, and P&Ls.
Proven ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds in a collaborative,
hands-on environment
Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications [Word, Excel, PowerPoint], database and
Internet.
Proficiency in Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred
