The North West Region ABA recognizes its responsibility in providing development of its boxers, in doing so it has introduced Championship Belts for the following Categories: Junior Class 4 Junior Class 5 Junior Class 6 Senior Under 20 Bout Novice Senior Open Class 2. The primary aim of the belts is to gain more bouts for our boxers to aid their development 3. Contests against other regional association Belt holders will be organised. 4. All bouts will be conducted according to the rules and regulations of the Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd Section two - Definitions 1. Novice A Novice is a boxer who has not competed in an Open Senior Championship. For the purpose of these rules the Novice Category is broken into 10 bouts and under and 20 bouts and under. 2. Open An Open Boxer is one who has: Won a Senior Championship at Regional Association level or above. Boxed at senior level for his country. 3. Please note an Open Class funded boxer is not permitted to participate in a championship belt contest. 4. Junior Class 4 is for boxers whose 16th birthdays occur in the calendar year of the Class Class 5 is for boxers whose 17th birthday occurs in the calendar year of the Class Class 6 is for boxers whose 18th birthday occurs in the calendar year of the Class Section 3 – Duration of Rounds 1. The following are the round durations; these are to be strictly adhered to: Junior Class 4 3 x 2 minutes rounds Junior Class 5 3 x 2 minutes rounds Junior Class 6 4 x 2 minutes rounds Novice U 20 Bouts 4 x 2 minute rounds Open Class 3 x 3 minute rounds Section four – Weight classifications 1. Details of the weight classifications can be found at Annex A. Section five – Challenge procedure 1. Before submitting a bout request clubs are to take into account that if their boxer wins the belt, that boxer can be challenged by any boxer within the same category from through out the region. Thoughtless bout challenges will be discouraged. 2. Vacant Belt - Were a belt is vacant or the current champion vacates on challenge for any reason the challenger shall become the intrim champion for that class and a bout will be activly sought ,the belt will be presented only on a successful bout .If two clubs decide to compete for a vacant belt then the challenge forms will be emailed to both clubs and are to be returned to the administrator .on recipt of both forms the bout will be sanctioned and the bout form is to be completed after the bout.From the point of the bout being sanctioned the belt rules on weights and pullouts will come into force and clubs are still liable for the fee. 3. On the evening of the bout, both clubs will sign the Bout form in the presence of the OIC( See Annex B) and make a cheque payment of £20.00 to the North West Region ABA . 4. One check weigh-in is permitted please note there is no weight allowance for junior boxers. 5. The Belt will be located with the OIC during the bout and the completion the OIC will present the belt to the successful boxer, the OIC can delegate this task to the referee, other official or to a bout sponsor. 6. Challenging a Belt Holder - a belt holder can be challenged after 14 days of the bout being won, a challenge cannot be declined. The hosting club is to inform the administrator of the following Belt Category Boxers Detail – Age, Weight and bout experience Proposed date of contest Proposed venue Both clubs will be emailed an acceptence form to fill in and return no later than 1 week before the bout .The bout will be sancioned and confirmation will be sent to both clubs.From ths point the rules on pull outs or weight fails will be enforced and the offending club will remain liable for the belt fee. 7. On the evening of the bout, both clubs are to sign the Bout form in the presence of the OIC and the challenging club only, to make a cheque payment of £20.00 to the North West Region ABA. 8. The Belt will be carried to the ring apron with the defending champion were it will be handed to the OIC. On completion the OIC will present the Belt to the successful boxer, the OIC can delegate this task to the referee, other official or to a bout sponsor 9. If a bout is to be cancelled due to illness, a in date sickness certificate is required to be produced within 14 days after the proposed bout date, failure to do so will result in the offending club will be liable for the 20 pound belt fee. 10. Please note that the Belt will remain the property of the North West Region ABA, the winning boxers club and responsible for loss or damage to the belt. Section six - Championship Reign and intrim champions 1. For all cases, if the belt is successfully defended three times the belt becomes the possession of the boxer. A boxer is not permitted to hold more than one belt, a belt holder can challenge for another belt but if successful one must be returned to the administrator. 2. Open Class – There is no time restriction for an open class boxer, if however after a 12 month period and insufficient defenses have been made due to lack of challengers, the boxer/club however can apply to purchase the belt. If in the event of an open class boxer being placed onto funding during the championship reign the boxer is to return the belt and that particular weight purchase the belt. For current prices contact the administrator. 4. Novice Under 20 Bouts – A boxer can defend the belt up to and including the twentieth bout, after which the belt must be returned or purchased and the title will become vacant. 5. Junior Class 4, 5, 6 – Due to all junior classifications being age orientated the boxer has up to 31 December of the relevant year to defend the belt, after which the title must be vacated the belt must be purchased or returned. The boxer will then move up to the next Junior classification or become a senior boxer. If they wish and are still within the weight category of the next class they will become the champion of this class ,the belt will be exchanged to reflect this and their defences will begin again.If the champion changes weight class to a vacant belt they will become the intrim champion of that class and a bout will be activly sought. If the class weight is held be a champion then they will become the mandatory challenger and a venue will be sought should they wish to challenge.They will be informed if this is the case by the administrator. Class 6 champions on moving up will become the mandatory challenger for either u20 if they qualify or open should they wish to . Section seven – Failing Championship weight 1. If the champion fails the weight, the title will be deemed vacant and the belt will be handed to the OIC and the following will apply Providing the weight allowance is not above the permissible limits a bout may still take place. If the challenger wins the bout he will be presented the belt, if the former champion wins the belt the belt will remain vacant. 2. If the challenger fails the weight a replacement can be sought, if no replacement is available the following will apply. If the Champion wins the bout he will remain the belt holder and the bout will count as a defence, if the former challenger wins the belt the belt will remain vacant. 3. In the event of both Champion and Challenger failing to make the championship weight the following will apply. The Belt will become vacant, providing that both clubs agree a bout may still go ahead, but the belt will not be contested for. 4. 5. Please note neither champion nor challengers are permitted to have an immediate re-match. The fee for the bout will still be payable by either or both offending clubs Section eight – Officials 1. 2. Were a championship belt bout is to occur on a club show/tournament Grade C officials may be used. When the Region contest against other Region Belt holders Grade B officials and above are to be used.
