Metallic paint is a fun and creative way to add
unique accents to your home or project. Painting with
metallic paint is a little different than painting with
regular latex paint. So please read these directions
before you begin to ensure your project is a success.
METALLIC INTERIOR PAINT
Make sure you have enough paint to cover your
surface. One quart covers up to 100 sq. ft. (4.6 m2 per
946 mL). For full lustrous sheen, we recommend applying
two coats, so please be sure to multiply your surface area
by two to determine the amount of paint needed. Do not
thin this product in an attempt to increase the coverage
area.
Prep and prime your surface before applying
Devine Metallic paint. Devine Metallic paint can be
Stir paint thoroughly. When you open the can, the color
may look different than you expect. This is due to pigments rising to the top and is completely normal in metallic, ready-mixed paints. Just stir thoroughly to redistribute
the pigments into the base before you begin painting. If
you plan on using more than one can of the same color
for your project, mix them together before beginning to
ensure the color is consistent throughout.
used on properly prepped walls, ceilings, wood, MDF
or primed metal. This product is not intended for use on
bare metal or surfaces exposed to moisture or heavy
wear. Wall imperfections, bumpy areas and seams are
amplified, not hidden, by metallic paint so it is crucial to
correct and smooth the surface before applying paint.
Start by thoroughly cleaning the surface and letting it dry
completely. Scrape off loose paint and patch all holes,
cracks and indentations. Sand until smooth and remove
all sanding dust before painting*.
You will get best results in the fewest coats of metallic
paint if you start with a similar-colored base coat. For
example – from the Devine Target paint palette, you
could start with Petal under Penny, Oar under Karat, and
Mirage under Sterling. You can forego a new base coat
if your wall or project is already a color that doesn’t contrast with your metallic paint, otherwise you may want to
plan on more than two coats of metallic paint to get the
best final finish.
If you do start with a fresh base coat, allow that base
paint to dry about two to four hours before applying
your Devine Metallic top coat.

METALLIC INTERIOR PAINT
If you are painting walls, have multiple rollers ready.
For best results on large surfaces such as walls, you will
need a mini-roller or brush to use around ceilings and
edges and a larger roller (minimum 1/2" nap) to roll the
wall. You may also want to have a roller extender and
step stool handy to help you roll from floor to ceiling
most easily.
Paint small, vertical areas, working quickly and
keeping wet edges. Metallic paint dries very quickly, so
following this process will minimize roller marks. Start at the
top left corner of the room, and use a brush or mini roller
to paint a 3" border along the corner of the ceiling, wall
corners and edges. Switch to a larger roller (minimum 1/2"
nap) and apply paint to fill in this section, blending in the
wet edges quickly.
Fully saturate your roller and roll in an up-and-down
motion only, never side to side. This will help achieve
smooth, even coverage. Finish the entire section.
Continue to the right, repeating the same edging and
up-and-down rolling process. Keep the roller generously
coated as you paint – do not try to stretch the product.
Complete the entire wall, then rollover again
without adding paint to the roller. This is called “laying
off”, “striking off” or “back rolling”. Start at the top of the
wall and roll down to the floor using long, even strokes.
This allows you to work with gravity and maintain a light
touch. Keep roller pressure light on the wall, and lift away
gently, do not push on the roller. For the most consistent
finish, always roll in the same direction (top to bottom).
Metallic paints can have a “nap”-like finish, similar to
suede fabric that you will see as a subtle shimmering
pattern if you alternate directions of the roller. Always
overlap the previous stroke to avoid lap lines. Move left
to right, lightly rolling over the entire wall.
Let dry one hour before recoating. If you are applying
in humid conditions, wait a minimum of two to four hours
between coats. First coat may appear uneven. It takes
two coats of this product to achieve a full, lustrous look,
more if you did not start with a similar-colored base coat.
Apply second coat using the same method as first coat
described above, but you may eliminate edging and
move directly to rolling walls in small sections. Paint only
when surface and air temperatures are 50–90 °F (10–32 °C).
Let final coat dry for 48 hours before handling
painted objects. Allow the paint to cure for 30 days
before cleaning. Clean with only mild detergent and
a soft sponge.
*WARNING! If you scrape,
sand or remove old paint, you
may release lead dust. LEAD
IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD
DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN.
PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD
ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear
a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure.
Clean up carefully with a HEPA
vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to
protect yourself and your family by contacting the National
Lead Information Hotline at

CAUTION! KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF
CHILDREN. May cause eye and skin irritation. Use only
with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing vapors,
spray mist or sanding dust. If painting indoors, open windows
and doors or use other means to ensure fresh air entry during
application and drying. If you experience eye watering,
headache or dizziness, or if air monitoring demonstrates
vapor/mist levels are above applicable limits, wear an
appropriate, properly fitted respirator (NIOSH approved)
during and after application. Follow respirator manufacturer’s
directions for respirator use. When sanding, wear a dust
mask. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash thoroughly
after handling. Close container after each use. DO NOT TAKE
INTERNALLY. First Aid: Eye Contact: Immediately flush
with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation
persists, get medical attention.* If Inhaled: If affected
by inhalation of vapor or spray mist, move to fresh air.
If breathing difficulty continues, get medical attention.*
If Swallowed: Drink 2 glasses of water. Get medical
attention immediately.*
