Language Arts
In language arts we are working on
story beginnings and summarizing
stories. We read the story Cinderella and then the students
summarized the story. What happened at the beginning? What was
the big problem in the story? The
students then rewrote the beginning of the story. The beginning of
the story needs to have the characters and the setting as well as a
story opener that would hook the
reader into wanting to read more.
The students wrote some very interesting beginnings.
Have a great weekend!

Grade One
Well I think we can safely say spring is here based on the weather this
week. It was a little foggy out but the students were not foggy at all.
We had a great week and accomplished a lot. Thank you to all the parents that came out for Parent-Teacher Interviews. I enjoyed sharing
your child’s successes with you. I find a lot of value in meeting
with you and appreciate your dedication to your child’s education.
Math
Science
This week we continued working
with shapes. The students identified the difference between a
2-D shape and a 3-D shape. One
of the activities we did involved
looking at a 2-D shape and then
finding the 3-D shape somewhere in the school that
matched the 2-D shape. The students also used tangram shapes
to fill in the outline of different
animals.
Why do animals depend on plants
and why to plants depend on
animals? This was our topic of
discussion this week. Ask your
child why animals depend on
plants and why plants depend on
animals. Plants, large plants like
trees, small plants like flowers,
what do these plants need to
survive? As a class we discussed
what plants need to survive and
why they depend on soil. We
decided that the plants need soil,
water, sunlight and air. Ask your
child why the plant needs these
things.
With the spring weather comes wet
weather and wet ground. Please ensure that your child has an extra
pair of clothes at school
just in case they get
wet or muddy.
