Faculty of Economics – University of Belgrade, Foundation for the
Advancement of Economics and the World Bank
Invite you to the lecture
“Learning What Makes Government Work in the
21st Century”
by Tony Verheijen, the World Bank Country Manager for Serbia
From his significant experience working in Public sector Management and Governance Department of the
World Bank in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, Asia and Africa, Tony Verheijen witnessed firsthand the
government reforms being introduced, adopted, and then often discarded in many countries.
In his new book “Logged On: Smart Government Solutions from South Asia” Mr Verheijen argues that
designing government services and systems in line with what ordinary citizens demand, holding public
officials accountable for promises made or even just doing their job are just some of the problems many
developing countries still face.
Besides presenting his new book, Mr Verheijen will also discuss major problems of the public sector in
Serbia and possible ways to address them in order to make it more efficient.
After the presentation participants will have the opportunity of open discussion with the author.
