A look back at this week...…
Good News Club: Mondays
CRUSH Valentines: Kids may
purchase for 75 cents each
morning.
Spring Break: March 13 – 24
(March 20 – 24 possible snow
make-up days)
Fridays: Students may wear a
hat for 25 cents.
Reading: The students read poetry this week. The class also
began reading the novel, Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen. We focused
on the following skills: stanza, meter, lyric/free verse poetry,
simile, metaphor, and theme.
Language: We worked on homophones (words that sound alike
but are spelled differently with different meanings). Additional
daily practice was used to help reinforce all 5th grade language
skills.
Writing: The students wrote riddles using their homophones.
Math: The kids worked on these skills this week: area with
mixed numbers, compare mixed factors and products, regular
polygons, and mean/median/mode/range.
Valentine’s
Day
Each child may decorate a
container/box for their
valentines. The containers
can be brought in at any time
up until Valentine’s Day. A
class list is included on the
back of this newsletter.
Social Studies: The students began their next unit on the
American Revolution.
Science: The class learned more about producers, consumers,
and decomposers.
