Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources
Renewable and nonrenewable resources are both natural resources. They are
found in nature. A natural resource is something in the environment that people
can use to meet their needs and wants.
A renewable resource is a natural resource that can be replaced. They are
found in nature. Forests, water, soil, air, and the sun are all examples of a
renewable resource. The uses for forests are lumber, paper, toys, and houses.
Drinking, washing, watering crops, and water power are uses for water. The uses
for soil are plants and food. Air is used for breathing and wind power. The Sun is
used for light and solar power.
A nonrenewable resource is a material found in nature that cannot be
replaced. This resource is found underground. Some examples of nonrenewable
resources are oil, coal, iron, granite, uranium, natural gases, and many, many more
minerals. Oil, coal, uranium, and natural gases all power homes and power cars.
Iron and granite uses are jewelry and granite counter tops. We should use
nonrenewable resources carefully because one day they will all be gone.
Renewable and nonrenewable resources are different, but they both help
humans in many different ways. However, we should practice conservation by
using renewable resources like wind power from the atmosphere, solar power from
the sun, and water power from water to power homes and one day cars. Those
resources don’t cause pollution. Pollution is anything that dirties the air, water, and
soil. We can also recycle.
