VISIT FROM TONY WILSON: STORYTELLER
On Monday, all of the children had the
opportunity to spend 45-60 minutes listening
to, singing with, and creating stories with Tony
Wilson.
Tony brought his steel guitar, ukulele and banjo – to lead the
children in songs that linked to some of the great stories that he
shared with the children. He also showed them how to take
everyday objects (such as a PE bag and a plastic spoon) and to
use their imaginations to think of ways these could be used in a
story (by making the PE bag into a tent and the spoon into a
mast for a boat).
Tony also emphasised the importance of considering Who?
Where? What? When? and Why? when creating ideas for a
great story – and used the children’s thoughts and ideas to
create special stories for them to enjoy.
Tony was very impressed with the school and the children he
worked with. Before he left, he wrote:
“There is such a positive, tranquil and focussed atmosphere in
this school that is reflected in the children’s attitude and
application to their work. The commendable “hands-on”
approach from the headteacher, staff and pupils is exemplary.
Well done!” (Tony Wilson Storyteller)
REMINDER: STORY WRITING COMPETITION
There are still 7 days left to enter one of the
Story Writing Competitions that Caryl Hart set
us last week…
Year 4, 5 & 6: WRITE A SHORT STORY USING AN IDEA
FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE, BUT WRITE IT IN A REALLY
INTERESTING AND EXCITING WAY.
Prize: A signed copy of one of Caryl Hart’s books (The
Incredibles – The Hamster Rescue or The Incredibles – The
Piglet Pickle) for the ‘best’ story.
If you would like to enter the competition, please write (or
type) your story and hand it to Mrs Birchall, Miss Cosgrove or
Mr Bradshaw by Friday 30th September.
Year R, Year 1, Year 2 & Year 3: If any of the other children in
school would like to write a short story or produce a little
picture book, Caryl has also left us with a signed copy of the
latest Albie story, ‘How To Save A Superhero’. Any entries must
be handed to your child’s class teacher on or before 30th
September.
INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
On Tuesday, Laughton’s Photography will be in
school to take individual photographs of the
children in school.
All of the children will have an individual photograph taken and,
should they have a brother or sister in school, have a
photograph with their sibling(s) too.

Headteacher: Mr A Hilldrup
Typically, the children will be photographed in their full school
uniform – including their school jumper or cardigan. If you
would prefer to have you child photographed in just their
school polo shirt or dress, please write a short note to state
your preference (so this request can be accommodated).
If you have any preschool aged children – and would like a
family photograph of your child(ren) with any younger brothers
or sisters who are yet to start school – then please arrive at
school between 8:35am and 8:45am; so these can be taken
before the start of the school day.
MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING
th
On Friday 30 September, we will be hosting a
MacMillan Coffee Morning in school (from 9:15am
until 10:45am).
This year, this event will not follow on from a whole school
family assembly. Instead, the children in each class will be
invited to come into the school hall, one class at a time, and will
be invited to sit and chat with any adults and visitors that they
know while they enjoy a drink and a biscuit/cake.

If you would like to come along and support this event – and
spend some time with your child or grandchild – please arrive at
a time that most suits you.
It would be great if every child could bring 50p to donate
towards MacMillan Cancer Support and any visitors will be
invited to make a donation towards the charity.
If you would like to make a donation of any cakes, biscuit, tea
or coffee, please send these into school with your child on
Monday, Tuesday or, Wednesday next week.
OPERATION ENCOMPASS
In conjunction with Cheshire Police, our school has been
involved in an initiative called ‘Operation Encompass’ since
January 2016.
The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and
support children and young people who have been involved in,
heard or witnessed a domestic abuse incident.
Following such an incident, children will often arrive at school
distressed, upset, worried and unprepared. Operation
Encompass aims to ensure that appropriate school staff (called
Key Adults) are made aware early enough to support children

and young people in a way that means they feel safe and
included.
by visiting www.operationencompass.org or by contacting one
of our Key Adults.
At our school the Key Adults are Mr Hilldrup (Headteacher) Mrs
Ellis (Assistant Headteacher) and Mrs Sproston (Deputy
Headteacher).
PARENT GOVERNOR ELECTION
We have received more than one nomination for parent
governor.
Ballot papers will, therefore, be issued on
Wednesday to vote for and elect a new member to the
th
governing body. These must be returned by 3:20pm on 5
October for your vote to be counted.
This is a valuable initiative that means we can continue to
support and help children and families within our school
community when they need it the most. You can find out more
