RED TINKU International Volunteering - Bolivia Red Tinku is a volunteer organization in Bolivia that is working on several local projects since 1998. Beginning in 2007,we started contacts with YAP and it is involved in International Volunteering organized. Red Tinku organizes work camps, short, medium and long term. Its principles are self-management, social justice, reciprocity, solidarity, peace, multiculturalism, human rights and the mother earth and bring greater opportunities for the marginalized and excluded. The name of the organizations means: Red = Network and Tinku is a Quechua word meaning "meeting and exchange". We currently have international friends and partners as part of www.unesco.org/CCSVI and www.alliance-network.org Red Tinku has a Home and a Community Center "La Tinkuna" where volunteers, that join in the projects will be housed in shared rooms. AGROECOLOGY AND CELEBRATING THE FERTILITY OF THE PACHAMAMA. DATE: 1 - 14 of May 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION In May,in the Andes and mountains of Bolivia, begin preparations for the crops. In Cochabamba and elsewhere in May we celebrate the Feast of the fertility and fecundity of the Pachamama (Mother Earth) performing various rituals of gratitude, respect and reciprocity. In this context the Red Tinku also will prepare the soil and will celebrate before her the different agroecological projects involving local people and international volunteers. ACTIVITIES: Volunteers will work the farmland and orchards of the Red Tinku. In Agroecológica we prepare and celebrate for the fertility of the earth (Pachamama) performing various community services in the EcoSocial Center "La Orgánica", "Sara Yaku" inVinto and in the rural community of Potrero. (Plowing, fertilizing the soil, etc..). Volunteers may also participate in the rituals and festivities for the fertility of the Pachamama. LOCATION:: The project is situated in the central and low valley in the Cochabamba Region ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will stay in the Eco-social Center “La Orgánica” located in Villa Venezuela, southern region of the city of Cochabamba. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros --------O--------TINKU 02 AGROECOLOGY IN “POTRERO” AND WINTER SOLSTICE. DATE: 18 - 30 de June 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION In the month of June in the Millenarian Andean Culture it is celebrated the festival of the Sun or Inti Raymi, also known as the Winter Solstice, New Year Andino. A very important month in the peasant agricultural cycle. It is in this context that the Red Tinku is organizing in the Quechua rural community of Potrero a Work Camp for cultural, social and farm work, with children and adults. In the rural community of Potrero, the Tinku Network has borrowed a patch of land where it is building a small community based Agroecological and Eco-tourism center called "Potrero Wasi". ACTIVITIES: • Volunteers will prepare the land for planting vegetables and beans in the garden of "Potrero Wasi". • Building of a dry toilet. • Help building the first small circular Inca hut with materials found on site (stone, adobe and recycled bottles) • Tree planting of native species. • Tutoring and drawing for children from the School of Potrero. • Volunteers may also participate in the preparation and celebration of the Winter Solstice Ritual. • Visits to ecotourism sites and coexistence with nature. ADRESS: The project is located at the skirt of the mountain Machu Tunari, in Cochabamba valley, a 45 minutes bus ride from the city of Cochabamba. ACCOMODATION: On the weekends volunteers will stay in the Rural School of the Community of Potrero. Monday through Friday they will stay in the Ecological Centre "SARA YAKU", Vinto Town, Cochabamba. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros ---------------O-----------------TINKU 3. ORGANIC GARDENING AND DRY TOILET IN "SARA YAKU". DATE: Del 2 al 14 de julio 2013 DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PROYECTO. The Ecology Center "Sara Yaku" is a project of the newly built Red Tinku located in a semi-rural area. It is still work in progress and it is being adaptated to take forward the ecological center that has an organic garden. With this project we want to implement a dry toilet and expand the garden center "Sara Yaku" ACTIVITIES: • • • Preparation and grow-in the organic garden. Building of an ecological dry toilet. Tree planting. LOCATION:: It is located in the municipality of Vinto at 15 km. from the city of Cochabamba. It is a semi-rural area. ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will be staying in the same ecological center "Sara Yaku" Vinto, which has places to stay and camping areas. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros ---------------O-----------------TINKU 04. ECO-SOCIAL CENTRE "LA ORGÁNICA". DATE: 17 - 30 of July 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION This is a new project of the Red Tinku opened in January 2013 that functions as a social and cultural eco center-in the Venezuela neighbourghood, Southern Cochabamba, on the outskirts of the city. It has a public library and a shelter for volunteers. The project aims at sensitizing the local population on issues of waste management and environment issues promoting family gardens among neighbors. ACTIVITIES: • • • • Raising awareness through campaigns to recycle and reuse waste. Constructing organic compost. Build a room with organic material. Environment education for children LOCATION: The project is located on the outskirts of the city of Cochabamba. In Villa Venezuela, popular area of Cochabamba 20 minutes from the city. ACCOMODATION: Volunteers will be staying in the same eco-social center "La orgánica" that has a small shelter for volunteers. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros ---------------O----------------TINKU 05 ENCOUNTER OF ART AND CULTURE “PACHAMAMA”. DATE: 1 - 16 of August 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION In August, the city of Cochabamba and Quillacollo have extensive sociocultural activities. For this reason the Red Tinku organizes cultural events in alternative locations and spaces, such as plazas, cultural centers and streets. In 2013 we will organize the encounter of Art and Culture "Pachamama" to promote popular culture in alternative spaces and exploring multiculturalism. ACTIVITIES: • • • • • Assist in the organization of the conference and the Encounter of Art and Culture. Promotion and dissemination of cultural events. Promotion of cultural tourism and alternative spaces of Cochabamba. Participation in the traditional celebration of Urkupiña. Logistical support to cultural events. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros ------o-----TINKU 6 DAYS IN SOCIO-CULTURAL LA PLAZA DEL AGUA 1 DATE: From 18 to 30 August 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION. The city of Cochabamba has its central square "September 14" that since the Water War of 2000 is characterized in that it develop various social and cultural activities. It is in this context that the Red Tinku active in the "Plaza del Agua" exposing information panels, educational, holding exhibitions, fairs and film festivals, poetry, books, educational workshops, film forum, etc. This year in August, the Plaza "September 14" receive hundreds of visitors Urkupiña parties and is good opportunity to demonstrate the potential of participatory culture and people in the square. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros -------- O -------- TINKU 07 Ecological Center "POTRERO WASI" 1 DATE: From 1 to 15 September 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION. Agro Ecological Center "Potrero Wasi" is a new project of the Red Tinku to kick off 2011 in the rural community of Potrero Quechua, rural area characterized by the production of vegetables, legumes, fruits and flowers and small farming. Currently work continues to complete the first cabin and improve ecological organic garden. The project has great potential for being in an area of small farmers willing to learn and share their experience millenary cultures. WORK: Volunteers completed the second part of the construction of the circular hut Inca site material (mud, stone). Also build a clay oven and enhance the organic garden. Some volunteers in the evenings to give educational support and games to the children of the community school. Volunteers also in their free time may visit the forest at the foot of the mountain Machu Tunari and enjoy nature in the Andean Valley. LOCATION: The center is located in the rural community of Potrero to 18 km from the city of Cochabamba, at the foot of the Cordillera del Tunari mountain. It has a beautiful location by the panorama of the whole valley of Cochabamba. ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be staying at the headquarters of the Agrarian Union of Potrero and Ecological Center "Sara Wasi" Vinto, located a few kilometers away from Camp Wok. PARTICIPATION FEE: 180 Euros ------------- O --------------- TINKU 08 HERITAGE INCALLAJTA AND SUMMER SOLSTICE. DATE: From 15 to 25 December 2013 PROJECT DESCRIPTION. In the month of December in the ancient Andean culture celebrates the summer solstice. A very important month in the peasant agricultural cycle begins because rainy season in the Andes and Amazon. It is in this context that the Red Tinku organized in the rural community of Quechua Incallajta a Work Camp for cultural and social work in the city and countryside. WORK: Volunteers prepare awareness campaigns. Help build a compos and clean the heritage site. Conducted workshops on waste recycling Incallajta School. It has a public library and a shelter for volunteers. The project aims to sensitize the local population on issues of waste and promoting environmental gardens among neighbors. WORK: - Raising awareness through campaigns to recycle and reuse waste. - Build organic compost. - Build a room with organic material. -Environmental education for children, youth and adults. Volunteers will also participate in field trips and tours on the lagoon Alalay. LOCATION: The project is located on the outskirts of the city of Cochabamba. In Villa Venezuela, popular area of Cochabamba 20 minutes from downtown. ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will be staying in the same eco-social center "The Organic" that has a small shelter for volunteers. To February and early March for carnival and summer vacation, the city of Cochabamba and its suburbs have a very active cultural partner. The Ecology Center "Yaku Sara" is a project of the newly built Red Tinku located in the semi-rural area of the municipality of Vinto. Continued implementation stage and suitability to push through the center Ecological implementing an organic garden, public library and rooms for workshops on waste recycling and the environment. WORK: - Preparation and planting in the organic garden. - Construction of a new ecological dry toilet and showers. - Reforestation and cleaned Ch'ulla River. - Painted and Signaling Center Site. - School Support and educational games for school children. - Visit and walk through the park and ecological farm Pairumani Simon I.
