Name: ________________________
Dear Parent / Carer,
This half term our maths targets are focusing on addition and subtraction facts. Please find below your
child’s target level. Any additional practise that you are able to do with them at home is greatly appreciated.
For your information, we have also included the next target level at the bottom of the page.
Thank you for your continued support,
3c: I can calculate quickly sums and differences of multiples of 10
Practise with your child calculations that use numbers in the 10 times table e.g. 20 + 30 = 50
They should be able to say these automatically, e.g. I add 30 and 40 to make 70
You can ask questions like. “What do I need to add to 60 to make 90?”
They should be able to start with the smaller number or the larger number
It is also important that are able to state these using the inverse, e.g. 70 – 30 = 40
Again, ask questions like “I take 30 away from 70, how many am I left with?”
Or, “I took a number away from 60 and I’m left with 40. How much did I take away?”
To further extend them, encourage practise with numbers that are over 100.
e.g. 110 + 40 = 150 or 150 – 110 = 40
Short and regular practise is the best way to do this.
Next target....
3b - I can say quickly what goes with any number to total 100
- I can calculate quickly sums and differences of multiples of 10; 100 or 1000
