History of Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame Dr. Caitlyn Perry Dial Guest Speaker Tuesday, February 7, 2017 7:00 p.m. Henry Ford Centennial Library "Celebrating Michigan Women" From pioneer days, to suffrage, to civil rights, Michigan women were there to lead the charge. In this presentation, please join Dr. Caitlyn Perry Dial, Interim Executive Director of the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame, as she shares the history of the Hall of Fame and the incredible stories of Michigan's women. You can find out more ahead of time about the Hall of Fame at www.michiganwomen.org. Caitlyn Perry Dial is currently the Interim Executive Director at the Michigan Women’s Historical Center and Hall of Fame. For nearly a decade, Caitlyn has worked in small museums and organizations across the state of Michigan, working directly with the public as an educator and curator. She is passionate about women’s history and her role in telling the stories of Michigan’s incredible women. Caitlyn received her PhD in Public History at Western Michigan University. Her dissertation, about the Eastland Disaster, studies how personal memories of survivors, victims, and rescuers, have the ability to inform public memory and narrative several decades after a traumatic event occurs. She received her MA in History from Wayne State University where she wrote her Masters thesis on the labor of cross-dressed female sailors during the long 18th century. During her free time, she enjoys playing with her twoyear-old son, bingeing Netflix, and being a selfproclaimed beer snob. FOLD WELCOMES NEW MEMBER Maya Soden Used Book Sale Welcome back, faithful FOLD members! We hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season and the fairly mild January weather. Our sales total for December was $2,720, and includes sales of items on our second-floor shelves, the showcase, online, and at Bryant branch library. Since the last sale, the FOLD volunteers have been very busy preparing for the first sale of 2017, which will be on Wednesday, February 1st, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we will see lots of smiling faces on book sale day. The main feature for February will be a blowout media sale! All music CDs will be sold for 50 cents each, all DVDs will be $1 and all VHS tapes will be sold for $1 per bag. Many of the media items were donated to the library and are in excellent condition, certainly worth scooping up at these prices. Any connoisseurs of world/ethnic/folk music will be especially interested in this sale as one donation included a huge selection of compact discs featuring music from many different countries. We also have a large selection of pop, rock, jazz, classical, etc. The children’s area will have many new non-fiction books and media items. FOLD has received a large number of recently withdrawn library books for children and the shelves are fully stocked. Of course, we have also restocked all other sale areas including; cookbooks, biographies, art, sports, health and fitness, records, magazines, bargain fiction and nonfiction, dollar surprise bags, etc. We even have some surprise bags with 5 DVDs for just one dollar! We are hoping you will all brave the cold, come out to the library, and support the sale on Wednesday, February 1st, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. By the way, keep FOLD in mind for your gentlyused, relatively-new book and media donations. We are always looking for quality material to offer at future sales. We especially need children’s books, recent textbooks, and jazz and/or rock albums. Thanks for your continued support of FOLD and your local library.
