Introducing the Really Good Dress Up Kids Poster
and Magnets Kit
Collect seasonal clothing in a paper bag. Gather
students together and ask them how they know what
to wear each day. Ask four students to come up front
to represent each season. Take out the clothing and
work together to dress each student appropriately for
his or her season. Point to the Dress Up Poster and
Magnets and explain that just as you dressed their
classmates, they are going to dress each child in an
appropriate outfit. Model how to use the Poster and
Magnets and where the center will be located.
Dress Up Race
1. Copy the Dress Up Race Recording Sheet
Reproducible for each student.
2. Make a spinner for each group of four students:
Copy the Dress Up Race Spinner Reproducible so
that you have one spinner for each group. Lay a
paper clip on top of the small circle on the spinner.
Poke a brad through the end of the paper clip into
the circle.
3. Divide students into groups of four.
4. Distribute one spinner and four recording
reproducibles to each group.
5. Assign each student a season and tell them to
write the season on his or her reproducible.
6. Tell students to take turns spinning the season
spinner. Indicate that each time a student spins his
or her season, he or she is to draw one clothing
item on his or her child. Instruct students to
continue spinning until one student in each group
has fully dressed his or her child.
Variation: Place the spinner with the Poster and
Magnets in the center and have students play the
game in pairs using the Magnets instead of the Dress
Up Race Recording Sheet Reproducible.
In What Season Reproducible
Copy the In What Season Reproducible. Label a large
piece of lined chart paper with In What Season across
the top. Write the sentence: I _____________ in (fill in
each season) on a line of the chart paper. Read a
nonfiction season book. Ask volunteers to complete
each sentence. Tell students that they are to
complete sentences on their own. Distribute the
reproducible and instruct students on how to use the
word bank to help them complete each sentence.
Season Sort Reproducible
Copy the Season Sort Reproducible. Gather several old
magazines. Divide the class into four groups. Give each
group a piece of paper (with a season written at the
top) and some magazines. Ask the students in each
group to work together to find, cut out, and glue
pictures of items that represent their season. Tape
the completed work into a 4-square and discuss with
students the different seasons and pictures.
Distribute the reproducible and tell students that now
they are to work on their own to sort the items into
the correct season. Model how to cut along the
dotted line. Instruct students to cut and paste each
item into the correct season.
