The summer vacation which you and your family were waiting eagerly has already begun. You
may have planned to spend this valuable time in a much fruitful manner.
We advise that these vacations should be used productively to enhance your skills so that you
can contribute to the society you live in.
Summer Assignments provide you a handful experience for enriching your life by learning from
yourselves as well as the environment. The entire team of KGS teachers has put all will and
might in designing “The Holiday Assignment”, where certain aspects are kept in mind like use of
technology, wise use of paper and resources from surroundings. Put your shoulder to the wheel
in making the projects creative, attractive and cost effective with appropriate information.
Following points should be kept in mind carefully while doing the assignments:

Objectives of assignment:
 To Appreciate that liquids cannot be compressed though we say that the inter particle
distances in liquids are more as compared to solids.
 To Observe that the gases can be compressed.
 To Visualise how the application of pressure can bring about change of state and relate
in to liquefied gas in LPG cylinders
 To Visualise and compare inter particulate distances between gases and liquids.

Task:
Perform the given activity before attempting the questions in the worksheet.
1. Take a plastic/disposable syringe.
2. Pull out its piston to have the maximum capacity in the syringe.
3. Plug the nozzle of the syringe, by fixing a rubber cork and then either holding it tightly
with thumb or pressing it against the table.
4. Push the piston in, observe carefully and note how far you were able to push the piston,
note the reading on the syringe or measure with the help of a scale.
5. Remove the rubber cork and fill the syringe with water, oil and sand in turn.
6. Repeat the process of plugging the nozzle and pushing the piston again for each of the
material chosen respectively.

Avoid junk food like burger, pizzas, noodles, etc as they are work negatively for a good
body growth.
6. Drink lots of liquid in the form of water, fruit juices, sherbet, etc in order to keep you
hydrated.
7. Avoid going out in the scorching heat unless necessary.
8. If you are going out during daytime in the sun then try to have sufficient liquid, cover
yourself fully and apply sunscreen.
9. If on foot use umbrella.
10. Wear loose and light coloured cotton clothes.
11. Watch educational and informative programs like discovery and news more in the
television.
12. Spend valuable time with each and every member of your family.
13. Make your mother feel special by helping her in her household chores.
