2015 Salary and Benefits Survey Results
Tuesday, June 16, 2015
Executive Summary
In April of 2015, GPA conducted a salary and benefits survey of grant professionals. The
survey was distributed to all active GPA members as well as our non-member and
prospective lists; 288 responses were received. This response rate is helpful in
generalizing the results of the survey to the population of grant professionals as a whole,
as well as guarding the results from statistical anomalies, making the results more
accurate.
This is the ninth annual survey of its kind. In 2015, the GPA Salary Survey was expanded
to collect benefit information of responding grant professionals as well as data on
proposals funded versus proposals written. New data points and a strong response rate
provide answers to the question,
“Who is a typical grant professional?”

Raw Data
The GPA Salary and Demographic Survey were developed by GPA in response to
frequent requests from GPA members regarding the salaries and demographics of grant
professionals. This is the ninth installment of the GPA salary survey, which has been
conducted annually (with the exception of 2012) since 2006.
In April, the survey was distributed online through GoogleDrive to all active GPA
members and our mailing list of non-members via email. The survey was closed on May
15, 2015. Two hundred eighty-eight (288) responses were received, which is a decrease
from the 2014 salary survey. The most responses to a previous salary survey were 583 in
2009.

Cross-Tabulations: Salary
Cross-tabulations were performed with Question 30 (i.e., If you are working FULL-TIME as a
grant professional as an EMPLOYEE, in what range does your ANNUAL salary fall?). Ranges
were converted into a midpoint figure. For example, if a respondent selected the range $20,000 to
$25,000, the midpoint of $22,500 was used to calculate average salaries. Limits of the survey
administration software prevent cross-tabulations by the actual annual salaries reported in
Question 29 or the hourly wages reported in Question 33.

The Northeast – New England region came in as the highest paid with an average of
$93,500.00; with the West – Pacific region second, with an average salary of $70,241.94;
and third, the South – West South Central with an average of $66,315.79. The Midwest –
East North was the lowest paid ($55,555.56) grant professionals. We changed breakdown
of regions this year so a comparison to last year’s findings would not be accurate.
